I need a center channel. Right now I'm using a L/R with phantom center and two surrounds, all 4430s. Just wondering if people have lonely single speakers hanging around...

I don't understand how a 4430 or 4435 can be used as a center channel. The bottom of the screen is 36" up from the floor? :dont-know

Maybe it's behind a large perforated screen??

If I were doing a center channel for 4430s, it'd be horizontal MTM with 2426H on 4344A flanked by a pair of LE14s or 128H-1s, probably, and it'd hang above the screen (on brackets lag-bolted to the studs) with a downward sloped baffle.
[It'd also have JBL Monitor Blue grilles to match.... :D ]

We've done home theaters where the screen started that high up, a large enough room handles it fine.
Just thinking about this guy's setup gives me a cramp in my neck, though. I assume the wooden box at the ceiling houses a perf'd screen, but the CRT TV at the top cracks me up. I've always been more of an Audio- than a Video-Guy, but this is a bit further than I've ever gone:

I keep reading about pissed off wives and wondering just exactly WHAT their problem is....is THIS the problem?? The picture is scary as all hell. But if it sounds really, really good...maybe it could be,be...how about a little wood for a warm look to it?

I have seen that picture before my friends, but I can't remember where.
Yeah, that small TV and such huge speakers. I doubt anyone lives like that. How can you view the screen anyways?
;)

Maybe the CRT is not for "watching" but more for programming. I have a 78" projection unit that we use 3-4 hours daily, but to set the DVR or listen to music (and see the receiver menu), it doesn't pay to fire up the projector, put use on the bulb (about $400-$500 each), and listen to the fan noise right over head.
I have a 7" LCD that hangs from the screen frame, but comes right off and has a 20' cord so that I can place it on the coffee table is desired. As noted, it is used for programming and viewing the menus.

You know I have a DLP projecter in my basement and it is part of my 2 channel system. I have a bunch of DVD audio discs as well as some concert dvd's that I enjoy listening too, but with out viewing them. It crossed my mind it would be nice to have a small display just off to the side of my equipment rack for set up of these disc's. Any one care to recomend a small LCD display that would work???:)

I agree, the CRT is most likely for setup, and there's probably a screen in the ceiling-mounted wooden box.
In most of my major installations I spec a triple LCD in the rack- between CATV/DSS rcvrs, TiVos/DVRs, surround receivers, music & video servers, etc. I always wish for mini vid screens. In the "minor" ones, I install one during the setup process & remove it at the end. I also carry one in a rolling road case for sales demos and service calls.

Stopped in at my friend Jimmy's house a few weekends ago- we've worked together at three AV companies over the last 23 years, and have shared a lot of our accumulated "loot" over the years. Here's his approach to the extra monitors for setting menus & such. Note the pulleys in place to help mount that beast of a projector. JBL content: there's a 2245 in the home-made sub (not visible).
