I love the sound of these monitors, very detailed, esp. in mid and highs. However it occurred to me that by connecting via the analog outs of my Presonus Central Station, that I am going through many extra AD-DA conversions.

RME FireFace800 -- D-A --> Central Station routed to JBL 4328 -- A-D --> and then D-A gain out of the JBL.

Unfortunately the CS does not have a SPDIF out, so I cannot use the monitor switching cabability that I need. I tried going SPDIF out from the RME and had a problem going into Left and then digital cable to right (would not sync). It did work in reverse (Right to left)! But then I lose monitor level control except via the remote or manual switch.

So my question is, how good of quality convertors are there in 4328? Is there a benefit to going in digital to avoid the extra conversion steps?

So my question is, how good of quality convertors are there in 4328? Dunno. You can bet there are better, but is the difference audible?

Is there a benefit to going in digital to avoid the extra conversion steps?Always. The fewer A/D and D/A the better.

That said, unless you get a S/PDIF output, you look "stuck" to me. Maybe time to upgrade the Presonus... :o:
