Hi Grumpy

design, built and test special crossovers sounds expensive!! maybe a medium alternative will be great because here in Chile is very difficult to rebuilt, we dont have the parts like caps, and quality electronics you name at the forum so if someone can send me instructions and parts name with brand , model, etc i will apreciate and pay for.

by the way how is the value for a design xover in time, parts ,knowledge, etc. cause i need more than one pair for my speakers?

Hi Grumpy

I want to start with the 4350. they have their original 3107 inside crossover and electronic crossover model 5234 with 250hz cards inside. The bass isnt the dinamic as i want but not too bad .The upper half sounds without brilliance, voices are dull, not explosive as i heard with others large format drivers like 375, 2450 its a mudy sound.

I think in this case replacement caps and other electronic parts on the crossover will be fine and cheap for the begining, then i can tell you what less or more!

Im sad to see this top of the line speakers sounded great in its time and now are out of the line and far from its home,Casitas Ca. Let them a breath my friend. Both will appreciate your help

Grumpy

I use to hear the 4350 with a SAE 2600 for the bottom end and a ARC dual 51 for the mid-high end, with a ARC sp-9 pre, monster M1 cables and normal brand cables in the upper part, cause i dont believe in super cables, and a sacd from Yamaha
music tastes, Diana Krall,Andre Bocelli, Bart Kaemfert, petrucciani, etc

I would think 145's would be good. That C55 that had belonged to Avery Fischer had D140's in it and 150-4's were around when he did that and a couple of people think old Avery knew a thing or two.

Aren't *145's more similar to 150-4's than D140's? or did my gears slip a tooth?

Can't speak to your gearing problem. These things are not mutually exclusive but I would call the 145 closer to the 150-4. I think the 150-4 had an over hung coin (I could be wrong) The 145 has an under hung coil but otherwise is very similar to the 150-4. Or, it might be that all they share is cone depth. The 145 is an LE15 motor. I found it really interesting that Avery Fisher used D140's. Of course there could be any number of reasons. I haven't heard the 145 in a C55 but I'd bet it's awesome. I know it would fit because I've had a deeper speaker than that in one. D130's are awesome in a C55. My recollection is that the C55 takes op about the space of a 61" TV

Hey Thom.

Sounded like your were suggesting to use 145's, and at the same time suggesting
that what Avery used (D140's?) must have been an improvement over the 150-4's (which
seem closer to 145's than do D140's)... I have no idea what would sound "best" in a C55
cabinet to any particular user in their home environment, but I'm (still) having a hard time
unwinding your thoughts... which seem based on your actual experience, and therefore
are of some interest to me. 150-4's are fairly unobtainium, so are you recommending
K/E145's over D/E140's (let alone 2205/2225's)? -grumpy
