In my 3115's???? Since the older lower power rated stuff apparently had better definition/detail/resolution at low levels, (does the 2235 fall into that category?), could I swap out what I have and end up with a better sounding unit?

Hello Mike

Those cabinets sound damn good now but why not coundn't hurt. Crossover is certainly low enough. I quess you are biamping so levels are not a consideration. My concern would be what the box is tuned at. I would think it would be tuned higher than optimum for the 2235 but you can certainly change that. Another is volume the 2235's need some space to work there lowend magic.

I'd like to know what the box is tuned too; it has to be higher, as the 2226 is a 40 fs driver; I figure the box is tuned around 42-43. What tuning does the 2235 like?? I'm now also running a pair with passives, and frankly it sounds damn good. These are the updated network for the SR4735X/F.

Hey Mike

Attached is a screen shot of both drivers in 4cu. ft. As you can see the 2235 does a much better job down low. Not sure what the volume is in the 3115 that midrange horn must take a good amount of the volume. I would guess 40hz there about as the box tunning to. Note the box tuning in the attachment.

Plug in 6.6 cu ft once............

I can't seem to find the durn enclosure volume....I'd swear I saw it as 6.6. I have the dimensions, but it is a trapezoid and I don't know the volume occupied by the mid/hi horn.

So tune the 6.6 lower than 40Hz to reduce the bump and gain even more extended bass.

No, I'm with you; I'm not interested in just dropping them in and seeing how it goes. I have learned a few things, one of which is that the concerted business efforts of paid JBL designers meeting certain design criteria and balancing the acts of network, enclosure, and driver, generally are tinkered with at the risk of a lesser result................
Seems to me like some manufacturers start with an enclosure idea and then plop in suitable drivers later, then work on the network. JBL has often seemed to start with the dictates and concerns attending a good driver, then went to enclosure/baffle placement and network.
