Hello, I recently purchased a set of Valencia speakers. On this site is says in the product catolog that these speakers came with the 416-8B LF driver. The ones that I purchased came with the 416-16Z. Does anyone know what the difference is between the 416-8B and the 416-16Z LF drivers and which one is better? Thanks and Best Regards!!

Aloha HIFINUTRUS

There are 2 models of the Valencia. Both models are popular speakers for the Altec enthusiasts.

The first version 846A used 16 ohm drivers
The second version 846B used 8 ohm drivers

The 416-16Z woofer you describe is the 416 driver in 16 ohms
Altec decided to not install magnet covers on the back of the speakers installed in some of the cabinets. It was one way to reduce production costs.
On my 416-8Z speakers, the model number is stamped on the back of the speaker with black ink instead on the magnet cover with a label.

The only difference between the speakers you mention should be the ohm rating and no cover on the magnet.

Depending on your room set up, putting the speakers up off the floor a bit can help.

Hope this helps some.

it has more to do with size than cover. Some were 15" some were 16".

It might be true and in the case of a radiator would not make much difference anyway. But in the case of the 515 ,a bass horn speaker
the dimensions of the 210 cabinet were increased to acomodate the flare for a 16" speaker.

At Altec we are specific as to size changes because of the sheer volume of Bass Horn cabinets on the market. And still one of the rare Bass Horn speaker producer in the world through GPA.

Hi again Steve, if the LF driver is 16 ohms and the 806 8A driver is 8 ohms does the standard crossover that comes stock with the Valencia compensate for the difference?? Regards, Art

The Val's that I have in my shop are the 846A model with both 16 ohm woofer and compression driver, with a N800F crossover.

There is quite a bit of info on the Vals here on the forum of late, and you will be able to hotrod them easily if you wish!

Do you have any pictures of them to share, yet?

Is the plastic grill intact?

Here is a pic of the pair I have here.

Welcome to the forum!
Scott.

Sorry - I am on a government network and not seeing any images - are you, perhaps, posting links to one of the image hosting sites instead of uploading the pix directly to lansing list?
Lansing List posting is preferred, so the images are available as references in the future, even if the external remote site goes down/offline
