Do you all think of a "westlake-ese" DIY mini-monitor design using:
Altec 406 and Pasive radiator,
Altec 802-8G on 1" smith style horn,
Altec 3000G tweeter
could be a worthy venture into the DIY realm?
kind of a "mini-monitor,"
boxes just a little bigger than the Bolero Boxes
to compensate for the internal volume displacement of the
802 and horn?
How did you happen to think of Westlake???

basic looks alone...
I think i've seen some real westlake pics here with double woofers
(even though i am thinking 10" w/ PR),
MR driver on Smith, with tweeter for extension...
I hate to allude to me being able to accomplish
the great results that Westlake does, because i am sure i will fail
miserably at my first DIY attempt...
but that's the basic outward look i was thinking of....

Why not. The 406 is a great driver and would be a fine choice for a "small" speaker.
I recently bid on some Bolero innards on ebay with the notion of making a center channel speaker with two 406s flanking a 902-811B, or maybe a 902 on an Emilar bowtie. But the set went for well over $200, for that I'll look for a 414 single. Or wait awhile.

I bought a single and never did anything with it, I had a similar idea. The tweeter was blown, so I have the PR and the 406, if you are interested pm me.
I can post photos later if desired.

used the Frazier phenolic diaphragm drivers before i get a chance to make those mini smith horns....
I am declaring this enough of a success to pursue it further...
when i am done i'll post some more pics....
sorry for the messy testbed....
