View Full Version : Question for JBL woofer experts.

It seems the 18" JBL 2245H is one of the best JBL subwoofers for home use. It is fast, punchy, musical and smooth. I believe the equivalent for a 15" version is the JBL 2235H.

My question is, did JBL make any 12" woofers that would be as impressive as the two previously mentioned subs. In other words, musical, tight, quick, etc.

Thanks in advance for responses.

128H-1 Used in the 4412 Studio Monitor, and the 120Ti great driver.

Yes look into the LE-14 which is a 14" and for 12's you have 2214 and LE-120 and 122A's/129H's as well for the lowest FR for the 3" coil woofers. Just remember the 12's will be a bit limited in output compared to the larger drivers and don't have their X-Max as well. You set them up right and they can all sound good.

Don't forget the *real* 4" coil version of the 2235: the 2203 / 124A as used in the 4315 monitor and one of the obscure L series...

But if you want 3" coil, the 2214 performs quite well in the 4425 / L200t

The 2203 is the monster all balls JBL 12". The nearest modern equivalent of the 2203, which is no longer available, is the 252G as found in the LSR32/6332. It can be purchased through the JBL Pro website.

128H-1...Second that.

It is my favorite vintage 12". Period. Stuff one in a 4312 and realize what the 2213H is simply missing...

I have to agree with the 128H-1. I have 2 pairs of them, one in my L65's, and a spare pair, although on one of the spares was somehow damaged and no movement of the cone. :banghead:

I am far from being an expert, but I have the opportunity to compare the 128H and the 2214H, owning both 4412 and 4425 speakers.
Visually the 2214H have a deeper cone:the 128H looks really flat next to it.
Although the boxes are different (the 2214H is tuned to 34hz in the 4425, I don't know for the 128H in the 4412), as are the frequency ranges (up to 800hz in the 4412 and 1200hz in the 4425), the two drivers appear to sound quite different.
The 2214H seems to go much lower, but I prefer the low midrange of the 128H (200hz-800hz).
Maybe that's just the tuning?

For a subwoofer use why not take a look at JBL car drivers?
the 1200 GTI seems to be a 2206 with an heavy cone:

And then there is also the monstrous W12GTI

What about the woofer they use in Tik sub (and array sub?)?
I dont remember the model number on that one, but it is said to be spectuacular.
I have my B460 with the 2245H, it is good. But for some reasons, it do not make rumbling room, punch in the chest and so, as SVS and some others do. Dont know why....

I have a pair of JBL E120 frames and wondering if they can be re-coned into a 2203? I would like to use them for a custom build speaker pair in my home hi-fi setup.
