I am putting together a vintage system with altec 515 15" woofer and altec 802/811b drivers/horns and using premade 3 ways crossovers. Crossovers was set at 1000hz for midrange and 3000hz for tweeters. Since my Altec 802/811b horns/drivers will go up to 18000~20000hz, will I need to use tweeter to cover from 3000hz and up - I think not but just want to make sure. I do have some JBL tweeter model 2405 that I can use but dont want to use them unless I have to....want to save them for another project.

Thanks.

ecl86,

- You'll most likely need a tweeter for your 802/811 combo since they are barely linear out to 8K ( the 22K figure is way down in level and was published before "Truth in Advertising" actually meant much ) .

- LH member "Zilch" has a bunch of solutions just waiting for you ( one includes adding a tweeter while the other has you buying a different compression driver ). :)

Thank you Earl, I will add a tweeter. I just did not want to make a hole and waste a tweter for no reason.

- Read ( if you have the time this weekend ) this thread called Look at My New Babies ,,,,,snip, snip,,, (http://audioheritage.csdco.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=14690) to see just how non-linear the 802-8G is on the 811b horn ( with Model 19 compensation ). The 806 is even worse. This thread also has a few network suggestions that you might want to try out ( courtesy of Zilch ) .

- It might be better to start at the end of the thread and work backwards .
- ( The thread really needs an index ) .
