what would be the advantages for reconing a 1200gti as a 2206? Im looking for this sub for my car. but now am unsure about it.

A 2206 doesn't make a very good sub - its free air resonance is 52 hz - hardly sub territory.

If the 2206 is a single voice coil, I'm not even seeing this working not even the same mechanics. The GTI woofers are a DVC using Differential Drive Technology.

Here is a NIB woofer for you.

The GTI woofers are a DVC using Differential Drive Technology.Actually, JBL has used "GTI" for all sorts of different series over the years, and the 1200GTI is just from an earlier series: http://www.jbl.com/car/products/product_detail.aspx?prod=1200GTI&CheckProduct=Y They also have GTI series of other car speakers, not just subs. I don't know why they can't come up with more meaningful or less confusing naming conventions...

JBL does the same thing with many of their lines - another example is their pro-sound SR-X and SRX series - completely different series - not even close to each other.

Given the specified X-max on that driver I would not use it as a car sub.
.22in or 5.46mm looks like to me woofer cone material flying about the car.
You would be much better off, and safer using the driver I posted. I have been doing car audio since 1984, and like I said b4 I would not use that driver.
Looks more like a musical instrument driver.

One of them IS a 2206 motor, as I recall; not sure this is the one.

The purpose of reconing with a 2206 kit would be to turn it into a 2206, presumably. :p

[Tho it DOES give me some other ideas.... ]
