I just bought a pair of l220's :banana::banana::banana:

are they supposed to have stands? They are basically perfect. THe only thing is that i cant drive them like the PO does. I wish i could afford the Mcintosh stuff the guy has for sale.

No stands or riser's. Just 4 Tan colored plastic bumpers that act as feet or glides on the bottom.

Based on the weight of my L222s, stands would have to be made of concrete. :)

i just got them home and hooked them up.

WOW:D

They are some awesom sounding speakers. The only compaint i have is that my ipod cable is beat and causing some static.:(

I just wish i had enough money to justify keeping them.

Anyone?

steveyou didnt say how much you have in them..........i have learned over the years that when you sell something you like to pay bills all you end up with is more bills and less to show for them.a second job, sell off stuff you dont use or want first and save the good stuff for the last resort sale.high shipping costs generally preclude a good price for the 220 and buying them back will probably cost you more in the end.try some squash balls halved to get them off the ground is a cheap or even free fix if you know someone who plays

Truthfully I bought them to resell. In my stage in life have no need for them. Im not forced to sell them, but really just need to for myself.

but from what i learned from my last speaker sale. im not even going to try to ship them.

while i was loading them i noticed that on one of them the PO added 2 strips of wood for feet. Do you all think that these would hurt the value at all?

wood is poor material for floor isolation as the aim is to cut down resonance

I think you missed the obvious. Bi-wire when driving with an i-pod.

John

What does that mean?

I will be running an Ipod through my system with the 250TIs. Should I bi-wire?

If so, how the heck do I do it?

Thanks.

Noooooooo....they deserve better than that :o:

What is the difference?

I am running the Ipod through a monster wire directly into the back of a Nakamichi CA-5AII Pre-Amp.

Geez, get a grip.

Wait, there is a difference -- I have more than 1700 songs in a much smaller space than I would have if I had all the CDs strewn about.

Also, I love the shuffle feature.

;)

prolly need to upgrade bearings in xover, also. :bouncy:

How do I do that?

Thanks.

But its strictly for non-critical listening - sort of a "my favorites radio" while I'm fixing dinner and such - and can do playlists or do shuffle ... for serious listening its either CDs or LPs directly

Why does it matter?

Can you REALLY tell the difference between a CD and an MPEG file?

I can't...

:blah:

Yeah, I can - there is compression and distortions and just - lack of information - especially with the crappy 128kbps files that apple and others sell. But 320 is tolerable -

* - Of course some CDs are garbage too.

Directly from the itunes.com site ---

Format factor

You can choose other audio formats at no extra charge, including the popular MP3 format, at bit rates up to 320 Kbps. Using AAC or MP3, you can store as many as 100 songs in the same amount of space as a single CD, depending on the bit rate you choose. iTunes also supports the Apple Lossless format, which gives you CD-quality audio in about half the storage space.

I worked with a guy a few years ago who thought anything beyond supporting mp3's was a rediculous waste of money. He simply could not relate to a 2235H when placed on his desk. He thought it was a gross waste of raw materials and put his ear buds back in and started humming again. I thought his downloading Internet porn to our server shares was a gross waste of company resources too, especially when the nightly backups started taking longer and longer. But whatever, to each their own I guess.

The new Apple high bit rate tunes also EMBED your email address and other personal info right in the song. Better not share those online.

About the same cost to buy the CD, rip at high rate and have a permanent backup (for when your hd croaks)

You kidding me? I did not purchase $1700+ in songs. I downloaded straight from CD's.

How are the l220's supposed to be oriented to the wall. Ideally would it have a large flat wall or a corner?

steve

John

Your better off pulling them foward from the wall by about 3-4 feet:)

Does no one notice the high piched whisltle with MP3's? I do and it drives me nuts. All the musical qualities are sapped from MP3's when they are recorded, I couldnt play one through an L220! Its only my opinion though.

actually what was annoying me even more yesterday was that i was trying to play a scratched cd. It was skipping but i could hear the spinning coming through the speakers. if you understand what i mean.

Another vote for keeping them if at all possible.

I hooked up the IPod to the Nakamichi Pre-Amp and was stunned.

I played a bunch of music that I know every detail to -- and I cannot hear a difference.

Why are you guys saying there is a difference in quality? Maybe on paper, but to the average human ear...

Yup, I vote you keep them. Looks to me like they are in great shape except the grill cloth. That is an easy fix, talk to Mr. Zilch. Very Nice Speakers!!!:applaud:

Storm,
O.T. This post is about his L220's, he is pissed about all the MP-3 talk, the hint might be hi-jacker in previous post #20. Clean your crap up for him while you still have time.

I think the point is that many of the folks here have listened to lots of speakers over the years and are not "the average human ear" - they have "educated ears" - probably VERY well educated ears, and they CAN hear a difference.
Its also possible a lot has to do with the songs/tracks/sources you are comparing.

I told you before - don't spend money in audio when you can't hear the difference. Enjoy what you have and don't let others turn you aside.

there's those that can't hear a difference and those who wont..........a great pair of speakers does little for a substandard front end but a great front end can make a so so speaker sound great.......
