I have a pr of cabinet custom built for Altec 416-8b's that I'd like to replace with altec 16ohm woofers. Does someone know if 416a's or 416z's will fit the same bolt patteren and frame size as the 8b's.??
Thanks

I think there was a frame change somewhere along the 416 line, from skinny lipped frame to fat lipped frame, but i am unsure when the change happened....

from some quick poking around, seems as if the 416a has the "change- over" units, so depending on if the 416As you want to use are the "wide" or "skinny" lipped version.....

Well I bought a beautiful pr. of 416Z from ebay and a local seller in the Bay area. Nope, don't fit. So I guess I'm looking for a "wide" lip 416a. Anyone have a pr they'd like to trade? Or want 416z? :D:banghead:

Probably too late to help much, but here's the different dims;

early-15" frame has 14-9/16" bolt circle with 13-1/4" cutout
late-16" frame has 15" bolt circle with 14-1/8" cutout

As L.G. noted, some 416s were made in both sizes.

While the late frames are heavier, mount front or rear, and have better gaskets, once you've got the larger cutout in your cabs, little else will fit. Altec knew that...;)
