Model 2135 vs D130

What is the difference between the Pro Model 2135 15" extended range driver and the D130 extended range driver? Are they the same entity?

In general, yes, they are functionally identical. 2135 gets reconed with the E130 recone kit as does the D130(F)/K130/E130. 2135 has a more squared-off magnetic pot assembly profile than the D/K series drivers.

If we split hairs here, the early D130 had a .053" gap. Later it was enlarged to .057" to accomodate as Harvey Gerst calls "ham-fisted" idiots or something like that by torqueing the baffle screws too tight causing warped frames and failed voice coils. That's why Harvey created the D130F.

Dick Dale claims to have created the D130F, but we all know he's full of you-know-what.

Actually, Dick Dale claims that first, he invented the original D130, and then, he later improved it "by adding a rubberized surround" and called it the D130F.

Yes, but only slightly less. I think the difference in efficiency between the D130 and the D130F was less than 1 dB. Nobody, to the best of my recollection, ever mentioned the D130 was louder than the D130F.

I've also heard for years, depending on who's talking, that D140's are exactly the same except for the consumables, and I've heard that the opposite is true. It sounds like you would actually know.

That would have been quite precocious, since he would have been ten years old at the time. But--question: is it possible Dale originated using the D130 as a guitar speaker? Does anyone know where that was done first?

I would doubt that as a claim as well. The D130 was already well known in the musical instrument community.

I was 15 at the time and I think the year was 1960 or 61. I bought my first D140F in 1966, still have this speaker.:) John
