Hi!

Does anyone know anything about a large JBL PA speaker called D5?

They are each supposed to contain two 2226's, four 2123's, one 2445 and two 075's/077's on top.

Grateful for any info on these beasts.

OK, it seems no one has seen or heard of these beasts.

Could it be they are made by someone else? Perhaps Meyer or...

Anyone with some thoughts on this?

Is it common for other companies to build custom made speakers with only JBL components?

I personally used all JBL components top to bottom or all Bozak components top to bottom.

Rudy Bozak started a company much like James B. Lansing. His speakers were very well received and quite successful during the "Golden Era" of audio but unfortunately slowly slid behind the times and went out of business during the late 70's or early 80's I believe. I certainly never saw another pair after the mid 70's.

Yeah, here is the Bozak legacy today -

A far cry from yesteryear but that's the way the ball bounces I suppose. Bill Kieltyka is the only remaining Bozak engineer I know of and might still be a good source to get any of the Bozak transducers repaired.

I remember listening to some "Concert Grands" at a friend´s granpa´s house, with Macs; In the 80's they were not impressive, and looking at their innards, much less so.
