I was asked today if the 2342 was ever modified and if, for what reason?

I attached first a picture of my 4425. The Horn curves are NOT round.

The older Version seems to be perfectly round.

The pic is from the 1998 Pro catalogue

Funny you should ask I have wondered the same thing myself. Are there 2 versions?? If you compare the difraction slot to the 2344 the 2342 is much wider on the ones I have. You can easilly see the entire 1" throat of the driver on the 2342 where you can only see about 1/2 on the 2344. Kind of wonder how the 2 slots would have the same performance up at 16k??

Just a photo to show the differing slot widths

To my un-2342-trained eyes, all those bells are subtly different. Some are visually spherical, others have a quite planar "first face" (I told you already I'm a dope on these things...) before rolling out. So, besides the slot, JBL are 'sperimenting with the dispersion face(s). :hmm:

In the attached drawing is said that the gap width controls the dispersion.
Thats why the 2344 have only 100° vertical dispersion up to 12,5 kHz and 100° horizontal dispersion up to 16 kHz.

Looking at robs picture this will mean that the 2342 have only 100° horizontal dispersion up to 12,5 kHz.

Right?

Who can explain?

What is with a 1,5 inch throat?

Heeeelp:confused:

Hey Bo

Don't let the pictures fool you. Both are quite curvaciuos?? and have the same basic curves on what appear as flat faces. I will post a side view later on the 2342. That diffraction slot and the throat of the horn are the real differences. The insides on the 2342 are flat on the 2344 the inside face has a " contoured speed bump" to narrow the slot and a short throat about 1/2 long before the 'bump'. The 2342 does not have the throat or the bumps and loads directly from the driver into the horn difraction slot.
