I believe that's a typo - the manual itself lists the voice coil at 1-1/2". I'll bet someone accidentally transposed the 4" from their 14" and 15" Array offerings...

The closest your going to get is an 8 with a 3" coil the 2108/112. Get much bigger than that and you almost run out of cone.

An enthusiast should never run out of cone. (Zilch, I'm thinking you might want to add that gem to your collection. ;) )

I probably inspired a look at that page with my comment on the "humpback JBL" drivers.

I thought 4" was nearly impossible, so didn't point it out as a feature, though those are still superlative 8" drivers.

Giskard...you got one ? what model is it ?Those eights work great in the 800 Array and 880 Array. The 800 Array is considered by many as the best balanced of the Array Series.

They'll be waiting and watching I'm sure. :p

I wondered if that were the case. With the right sub (or sitting on top of a LF driver) and crossover, one could get back into four-way territory with those.

Her is a good example of running out of cone. Usually you can tell the rough dimension of the V/C by the size of the dust cover. Here is one of my fav's from Parts Express. This driver has a 2" V/C, and were almost out of cone. These little guys are killer.

The W8-740C is one of the highest excursion 8" subwoofers available on the market. It utilizes a heavy-duty paper cone, foam surround, and bumped back plate for maximum mechanical movement. The 2" 4-layer voice coil, vented pole piece, and heavy-duty aluminum voice coil former provide impressive power handling. Excellent for small-enclosure home or automotive subwoofers.
