Hi,

yesterday i buy 2 beautiful 4333A in like new condition.
I am very curious, so i open a 2405 to see the data stamp on the Diaphragma.
I was a bit surprised, because the Diaphragma is blue and no Stamp on it.
All (10) other 2405 i open years bevor, had gold Diaphragmas with data Stamp.

I am sure the 4333A Boxes never open bevor. I have them from 1. Hand and they stand all the time in a livingroom. And how i can see the 2405 never removed bevor.

Have everybody see a blue Diaphragma like this bevor?
Maybe JBL use it in a serie of 2405?

Thanks for help.

The earlier 2405s had the blue ring like the 077s. The later models had the gold colored ring.

077 ?077<->2405
075<->2402
w/some cosmetic differences, e.g., paint, wedge material, ...
(seem to recall variations on available 2402 diaphragms as well... search if interested)

One more thing.

One Box have the white/black cable to the 2420 Driver black Terminal.
The other Box have the white/black cable to the 2420 red terminal.
This is only by the 2420 Driver in one Box.

The 2405 and the 2231 Bass have all the 2-color cable with black, to the black terminal on the speaker.

I know from the JBL Technican here in Germany - allways the cable with black to the black termin on the speaker.
Why my 2420 Driver have the cable to the red terminal (only one Box)?
Maybe the technican where mount the speakers had a bad day in 1978.

I would say he might have blinked when he was putting in the wire, and never looked back.?

I believe that to be the case; the crossovers are wired so that all the polarity decisions made in designing the speaker are preserved, and the assembly technician need only follow a simple rubric.

If the foams on the 4333a's you have are not dust, the woofers have been out. Maybe something happened with the wiring at that point by someone over-thinking the problem. Anyway, if you restore the wire with black to the black terminal they should be right. Imaging and aural coherence will improve.
