Other than the base issues they look to be very pretty. Looks like someone wants them bad. Probably Zilch is bidding on them since they are in Cali. He loves them so much now he has to have a pair. Or we have someone/Altec fan watching the infamous thread, and wants to upgrade them???

Yep, I am watching them too.

Must be someone is reading the thread and realizing more than ever that Valencias are an actual awesome all around speaker and hard to compare --- even with the big boys.

I am shocked at the price with the part of the base missing.

Did anyone see the pair that sold for $1,085.00 with both grilles completely messed up?

Golly, the newer 846Bs must have about the same value - $1500 to $2K.

Very nice to see such a great speaker reach such nice prices, lately.

Keep going!

;)

It's certainly counter-intuitive.

When it comes time to sell my stuff, I will post a comprehensive analysis of how terrible it is, and the selling price will go to double or triple its actual worth.

Those are exactly like the pair in my shop!

Pity, I didn't treat the grills with respect when I ripped them off of the cab as the owner watched, horrified!!!

I think we ahve a great fix going on, here and am so grateful for everyone's contribution!!!

Especially Mr. Zilch and JackGif!!!

What a community of like minded individuals...when it comes to old speakers!!!

Thanks.

Scott.

Is that the speaker terminals on the bottom? Why make such great drivers and fantastic wood cabinets and have a cheap terminal like that?

Exactly.

I feel the same way. Everytime I connect my speaker wire to the back of my speakers, I often wonder the same thing.

Wow, they are up to $1924.00!

Wonder if that person is watching the tweeter thread. Yikes.

Not a shill bidder --- they have between 500 and 900 feedbacks.

I am shocked.

Some of the older JBLs had cheesey push-spring or twist-lock connectors.
Put a good pair of Banana jacks in there for a solid connection.
If you MUST keep the terminal strip, just wire them in parallel - but ... terminal strips for speaker connections?? ... acckk!

That would be awesome if you could change them out.

Like I said -- my Vals are at you and Jacks disposal. Whatever you want to do with them is fine with me.

How much should I bring for the terminals?

Thanks for doing that for me. You are such an awesome friend.

Typed - 5 way post speaker, into google - and found the following link.

http://stereos.about.com/cs/glossaryandtools/g/5_waybinding.htm

But more funny is this quote from that website:

Speakers and amplifiers with 5-way binding posts are much preferred over speakers and amplifiers (or receivers) with other connections (the most notable of which is the cheap spring-clip or guillotine connector found on many inexpensive speakers and receivers).

I thought that was pretty funny.

wtf is going on here. am i missing something? vals have been going for like 500-1000.
This has to be some kind of brilliant scam. These are going for 1900 while the Altec 19s in mint condition with the good pictures can't move for a G.

It is kinda baffling. :screwy: I think parts of it is he is offering world wide shipping. The forum member who picked up those MINT M19's in Cali sure got one helluva deal!!! I think if the seller of those had offered W.W.S on them they would have sold for probably $2200.00 to $2500.00 maybe even more. I also think for sure they would have gone over seas. I think collectibles in that kind of condition will bring he most if shipping is offered.
