I need some cheap, light (hang on wall, maybe on a little shelf), 8 ohm surround speakers.

I keep looking on eBay and the Best Buy clearence tables, but I don't see anything exciting. I am considering building one of the Parts Express speaker kits (the $100 one 6.5" 2-way), but if someone had some old speakers they need to unload, I would like to know about them. In no way to I guarentee that I would buy them, I am just fishing right now.

Thanks!

Hi Ken,

Welcome back. I am currently using JBL Control 1 Plus monitors for my rear channels and have been very happy with them. The consumer version is the Pro III. They show up on ebay often and use easily obtainable mounting brackets. The only thing is that they are 4 ohms, not 8. I have seen them used with surround receivers rated at 8 ohms with no problem, although I am driving mine with a dedicated power amp and really do not know how the output sections of surround receiver would handle them. If the impeadance is a concern, I have also used the L20t or the pro counterpart, the 4406. Both are 8 ohms, available on ebay often and are probably much better than what you could buy in a store for the same price.

Good luck,

Randy
