Hi Guy's and Gal's

got my eye on a pair of 4333a's. What would a 2234 sound like in there? The summits were the first Jbl I ever heard :applaud:

The 2234 is as far as I know the 2235 without the mass-ring. It would not be good in a 4333. Different mass etc. ask the ones more knowledge than me about this.

It would not be good in a 4333.Absolutely... you would end up with a system that was rather bass shy and with far too much lower midrange emphasis. If the goal is to accurately reproduce music, you would have a far less satisfactory system.

Hello Rich

Widgets right you will unbalance the lower mids and be a bit bass shy in comparison to stock. When you loose the mass ring you get 3db more output up top.

OK, I'll play devil's advocate... briefly.

If one were to biamp and EQ, perhaps retune the cabinet a bit,
you could end up with something still fairly nice/usable. Not for the
faint of heart, time, and resources. Did this for awhile with 4430's,
but went further and added the 2nd 2234, rolled off ala 4435 which I
like even better. Your taste may vary.

If the question was related to already so modified 4333a's, seems like
adding a mass ring would be a simpler path to success.

thanks guys,

I have 2 extra 2235 jbl recone kits , so I was thinking about whether or not to leave the mass rings out . You have answered that Q . Would 2235 work better ? I'm grateful for your help, I can only learn from asking Q's even if they are rather sophmoric.
Cheers, Rich

Anyway, in answer to your question. The 2235H is the JBL recommended replacement for your 4333s. It should be quite satisfactory. If you want to read up on it including members' listening impressions and actual experiences do some more searching... you may also stumble upon some other interesting reading.

I put a 2235 cone in one of my 2231 baskets and listened to both (in 4333's)..the new one was a bit tighter right off, but for all intents and purposes, sounded the same..I went ahead and did the other one..no regrets!

Not to leave you lost in searching

You can use:
2205, 2225, 136, 2231, 2234, 2235 Baskets

Avoid the Alnicos as they need remag most of the time. I'm telling from experience.

You may also use the "A" or "B" versions but they will be the older alnico versions which may require a recharge. In addition, the alnico versions are not exactly like the ferrite versions sonically, but they are quite similar.
