Listing has set off my :bs: alarm...

These appear to be plain 'ol 511B's with 1.4" throat adapters, and should
sell accordingly :montyp:

I could give a flying ( er... circus ), but the 511E ref pulls my chain...

I've never seen a 511E, but it sure seems like down-adapting from 1.4" to 1" would create some issues.

The extra length isn't going to help time-alignment any, either, I wouldn't imagine.... :dont-know

I've seen 'em. They've been blue and aquaplased on the outside (a bit shorter than 511B's, if I recall correctly) and definitely labelled as 511E's. I think there are photos
here somewhere... I see this auction as being similar to advertising K145's as 150-4C's.

I liked the creative suggestion that Altec sold 'em setup like that...not. Look at the # of bids already, plenty are falling for it.

I'm sure Altec engineers never considered a need to mark those adapters with an arrow...

SpeakerDave put up the 511E pix awhile back in marketplace...the real McCoy.

Ah. Thanks... That's why I remembered blue... apparently a dark gray in normal lighting.

Zilch,

I talked to Bill H. @ Great Plains in the past and he commented that they did not downsize the 1.4" to 1", but cut the horn where 1.4" would match up.

It is a shorter horn because of that. I like the 311-60/311-90 models because they are thicker construction and don't ring like the 811/511 horns.

Just my input on this!

Regards, Ron

so, with the help of a competent machine shop, one could have a pair of 511Bs converted to 511E? very very interesting....

does anyone know how much shorter than the 511B the 511E is? and is the mounting flange the same as on the 511B, except drilled for the 1.4" driver mount pattern?

511B->511E?... that's been suggested here before. I think you'd need to also lay in
a fillet (radius) to match the 1.4" flange hole to the cut-off throat (which would now be squareish).
