I have 2 sets of the 2902 power pack which includes the 2402 bullet and 3102 crossover. How do I tell if the magnets are alnico and if they are alnico are they worth more that the 2402H being sold today on the used market. Serial numbers 18140 & 18131,

Thanks for the help.

Sound like what you have is alnico. Look at this link http://www.lansingheritage.org/images/jbl/catalogs/thumbs/1980-pro_small.jpg (http://www.lansingheritage.org/images/jbl/catalogs/1980-pro/page15.jpg) and if the mags look like these then it is Alnico

If they are much bigger then... you get the picture.
Both are very good drivers. Alnico would bring a bit more but the value is up to the user. Me I'd take either.

If the foilcals are still on, they will say either 2402 if Alnico, or 2402H if ferrite. The ferrite magnets are also much larger diameter and usually have a protective rubber "tire" around them. This link shows the 2402H: http://www.jblpro.com/pages/components/uhf_drvs.htm#2402

It's debateable whether the alnico or ferrite is better or more valuable - you'll likely find little consensus...

Thank you for the info. They are Alnico. Both name plates are intact and read 2402.

Thanks again.
