Buy them, if you have room for them. That's a VERY good price.

They are NOT "Just boxes."

Balderdash. They work very well and produce huge bass with very deep extension. I have four of these beasts - built them myself with 2245H drivers. Look at Zilch's thread for more info.

The enclosures are complex -- not an easy build. If you can purchase the enclosures at a reasonable price -- do so. You can get JBL 18 inch drivers on EBay -- sometimes for a very good price. The enclosures only consume a 30 inch square when placed on end....

Just look for a used BGW 750C or an HH V800 to power them -- you will be very pleased with the bass.

At full tilt, you may hit the "BROWN NOTE" heh heh heh

You need to look at the Theile-Small paramters for the Fane drivers...
THe 4688 is purpose designed for a specific JBL driver..and hope the TS paramters for the Fanes are close enough.

My 4688 clones differ significantly from the stock ones becuse I used JBL 2245H drivers instead of the 2241 (I think that are used in the stock 4688s)

Maybe Zilch can help on this one??

OK, so I already HAVE searched my arse off on this site looking for a kind of plan to clone these enclosures.

Has anyone actually posted the dimensions?

I have a great number of 2240, 2241 and a couple of 2242 drivers collecting dust. (well, trust me, they are double wrapped in plastic, bolted together and often rotated)

I want to build this enclosure for the sheer fun of it.

Can anyone post precise dimensions or is what we already have all that we will ever have?

My summer projects will include a mock up of this design. I plan to do a particle board trial, using my oldest 2240s. The metal braces between the drivers (which I am sure were an essential element) will be simple threaded rod for now, I will use PVC pipe for the vents.

I am also concerned that as I build these "for real" I need to use more substantial cabinet sides, especially within the highest pressure areas (middle chamber). I can see that they used a simple "hole in the wall" type of port. I plan to double the sides' thicknesses and I am concerned that the 8" inch holes in the wall will no longer be adequate.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

My next post will include this site's links to all I have already found regarding this enclosure, so that we ALL do not continue posting the same links.

What happened to the other guy who was going to build four?
I should start another thread, right?
