Scale down a 2" horn to 1,5" ? How ?

I have some drawings on horns for a 2" drivers but i want for 1,5" driver instead. Can i just scale it down ? And how do i do it ?

Will a 1,5" driver work in a 2" horn , or ?

Why would you have to scale it down?? You want the same Low Frequency cut off?? As long as the driver is capable of the same Lower Frequency Response why not look for a 1.5-2" adaptor and just use the horn as is.

P-Audio makes the requisite adapter, as I recall. You may have to drill new mounting holes in the flange, is all.... :yes:

Since, you're talking about making your own horns.
What if you took the 2" design and lengthened the horn slightly.
Don't change the size of the mouth opening or the horn's flair rate in any way.
Just lengthen the horn as a whole. By default, this would cause the throat area to become smaller. So, at some slightly longer horn length, the horn's throat area should be 1.5". In a way, it would be like your building in your own 1.5" to 2" adaptor directly onto the horn itself. Then again, it might maybe even better then using an adaptor.

Hi Mats,
I built a Iwata horn 2" and fixed driver Vitavox S3 (1 1/2" throat) and adaptor piece between 2" square (Iwata) and 1 1/2" circular (Vitavox S3). The sound (sorry: the music) is magnificent.
You can also "scale" (Its easy) down your drawing horn, but the horn caracteristiques will be change, be careful with the caracteristiques horn versus driver.
Do it (in DIY).

In my little world i thought a 1,5 " horn was better than a 2" horn for a 1,5" driver. It´s easy to make an adapter for 2"-1,5". I just belief that i got a little problem when the horns doesn´t fit to 100%

Today i have 2380A, 2382A and 2" tractrix horns for my 2446h and 2450j so i will make an adapter to my tractrix horn to put my new 2435hpl drivers when they arrive, just for try them.

After that i will make real horns :D .

I am interested in this thread as well. These Hi-perf 2435HPL's I have seem to have been built on an almost proprietary basis. Not a lot of horn choice out there, especially from component sales. I don't have the connections Zilch has to buy these PT types. Would an adaptor 1.5" to 2" work ok for this driver to say a 2380 type horn ?

If you want that flat front biradial type of horn like the 2380, you might consider the 2381, which has a 1.5" throat. You may need to drill holes in the flange for the smaller bolt patter. The 2381 was used extensively in the SR series with the 2447 and is listed on the Horn Parts List for a reasonable price.
