Is it really not possible for you moderators to delete members that have not been active, let's say for the past year?

Very frustrated to read that a member since 1993 has a birthday with 0 posts.

Come on Rolf...

At least this member didn't create any problems to the forum. But if we delete him it isn't a problem either.

Let the mod's decide

Oh regarding your Avatar, don't change the 4343 to Everests!!

Hi Rolf,

I do not agree to your idea, but this is only my opinion.
We all know that there is a large number of lurkers, which only read what the experts and wannabe experts wrote. They don't need a lot of system disk space, so let them contribute also in silence.
I like them a lot more than the brain farts of some frequently posting members.

I vote to keep them :)
The "experts" provide the content
The "wannabes" provide the entertainment :rotfl:

It's all for the best I guess.

Ian....how dare you taint the pristine Lake Tahoe alpine air. That's a violation of California emmisions laws.:D

Oh wait....maybe you were on the Nevada side where smoking is still allowed in the casino's and restaurants:barf:

Don't know yet Guido. Haven't heard them yet. Have you?

To all else who have a comment about this: the only thing I was thinking about was to get the number of members more precise. Have nothing against those who just read from time to time. Maybe I should just do that too.

EDIT: When I say active, I mean logged on.

the only thing I was thinking about was to get the number of members more precise. After spending a few days doing the metrics I came to the conclusion that it won't be accurate without a database reconciliation and why bother. If I remember correctly the current count is about a hundred off give or take a few hundred. :p

Rolf the only way would be to build in a re registration or membership expiry after say 12 months. They woud still be a member but would need to update their password.

Perhap the most recent version of the forums already has the statistics you are concerned with.

At any given moment, there are more guests on the site than members. I'm surprised by the nonmember traffic volume.

I registered as a member some time before my "current" registration date, but I was such an infrequent visitor that at some point I lost my password and couldn't get back on. When I stumbled across it one day, I tried to log in a couldn't. Don was kind enough to reactivate my membership using my old screen name but with a new password.

Apparently anything I posted, which wasn't much, maybe three or four L100 posts, disappeared with the version of the forum under which I first registered.

I'm surprised by the number of people who rarely or never post but who checkin in weekly or more often. It's quite a few.

As a forum gets larger, the number of members becomes meaningless, I think. Over at AVS we're closing in on 400,000, and I'll bet 60% or more of 'em haven't posted in years. I seem to see the same guys on every forum I visit over there.

We should move past the numbers, although Rolf it still bugs me to see all the birthdays for people who haven't been around in years. I thought about starting a thread called "It's JuanCarlosE250's birthday. Who the F$%# is he?" But I didn't. Bandwidth, you know. ;)

On another forum I visit, they will check the membership who havent accessed the forum, and after two years they delete the members who havent even been on the site. This could be a thought for consideration, I mean, if someones is registered but doesnt post but comes in to read, thats fine, Im pretty sure we have a lot of names in the member list with peoiple who havent even looked in here in I dont know how long.

And, of course, as Ti points out, we have how many guests reading at any given time? That wont change, and it doesnt bother me either.

AFAIC, all of these audio forums, and there are a few, have become the audio magazines of the 21st century. Now all we have to do, is get audio companies to send us gear and speakers and cables to evaluate, and we can do writeups, and reveiws, then, we can charge a subscription fee, and actually BE a well read magazine. Maybe even have paid adverstisements!

But, seriously, imagine an audio forum, one where you could actually talk ( post ) to the reveiwer and ask questions about the reveiw, and other things?

There could be a good buisiness in there somewhere.

We seem to have three threads here.

I have no interest in discussing flatulence.

I agree, ketchup has no business being on a hot dog.

...and on to the original topic of the thread.

Is it really not possible for you moderators to delete members that have not been active, let's say for the past year?

Very frustrated to read that a member since 1993 has a birthday with 0 posts.I have no interest in deleting people who may have lost interest in our circular discussions about horns vs. domes and vintage vs. contemporary and Altec vs. JBL and tubes, wire, aluminum, titanium, etc. etc... it does get tedious.

...and then every now and again an Everest DD66000 comes along or a member presents his latest construction project and it can be interesting.

I see no reason to delete anyone's account for lack of participation.

Since Los Angeles is the largest consumer city of hot dogs in the US, followed by New York, San Antonio, and Chicago, we have a pretty good perspective on the hot dog.

I love both Nathan's and Vienna Beef, along with Hebrew National and Farmer John's.

Nathan's tastes best with NY deli style mustard, or "almost naked." Yeah, you can make it Coney Island style, but it kind of drowns the dog.

Vienna Beef really is best when you "drag it through the garden." Just don't over do it. When the ingredients are put on in the right amounts, there's no better dog on the planet.

Hebrew National loves some spicy mustard, a dill slice, and some onion--ooh, heaven.

Give me a Farmer John's with some mustard, onions, relish, and a couple of Jalapenos at an LA Galaxy game, and I'm good for 90 minutes.

The local dog chain, Weinerschnitzel, actually does a Chicago Dog that's not half bad, but it's not Vienna Beef, and they can drown the dog, so you gotta scrape some off. They also make a Stadium Dog that's overrated and they built a rep on chili dogs and their "chili dog diet," which in a sick way is kind of funny.

Let's face it, good dogs is good anywhere, and NO Ketchup, please!

National Hot Dog taste is as personal a thing as what speakers one likes!

Ill tell you a little secret, now I love Nathans but ONLY the Coney Island store, and I love Hebrew National deli dogs, but theres this company in Chicago, yeah, I know, I know, Eisenbergs Gourmet Hot Dogs, they are a wholesaler of their product, man what a GREAT tasting dog. Kind of sort of like a Hybrid Nathans/Hebrew National in one dog, scrumptious, I tell ya.

And, when your in Manhattan, something about sidewalk vendors dirty water dogs, those little Sabretts taste good too. I can about put away 6 or 7 of them.

But, tonight? Im going out for fried calamari at L & B,s Spumoni Gardens in Brooklyn, another great treat. :applaud:
