OK,

2 2235 + 2 2490 + 2 2402 + a crossover + a "nice" cabinet = 75,000 USD?? :bs:

Is this cabinet made of gold?

2206H is the 12" counterpart of the 2235H :p

What are the total cost for the drivers and a good network in the US? Should be fun to know, as the cabinet will be the rest.

Maybe it will come out like a Wilson model, where 80% of the price is the cabinet.

Is this cabinet made of gold?Well... if you are used to ripping people off with ridiculous cables and cable type profit margins it is only natural that a speaker using decent components would end up at such a price point. Besides, who would want to use $30K wire on a $10K pair of speakers? :D

It'd sure be fun to get a hold of their customer list;)

Quotes from the NBS site:

The driver cost alone in the Pyramids exceeds the entire cost of goods for many $20,000+ speaker systems.

The midrange is a JBL 2490H compression driver loaded in a 25" horn structure with conic expansion in a ratio of 2:1. This stupendous driver applied in this way has a raw sensitivity of over 105 dB SPL/Watt.

The tweeter is a JBL 2402H ring radiator. This is the modern version of one of the most classic horn tweeter designs. The horn is circular and there is no explicit diaphragm. The throat of the horn is driven by the edge of the voice coil. The response is very extended and the sensitivity is 110 dB SPL/W.

In the midrange and tweeter, exotic materials and designs give the lowest possible moving mass, hence very high acceleration

I guess titanium qualifies as an exotic material although I don't recall it being used in the 2402H. So, does the 2402 have an implicit diaphragm, or is it virtual? When you buy a replacement diaphragm, is the box empty?

Well it took 30 years, but JBL finally gets recognized by the high-end as worthy enough to be used in an overpriced, under-designed, kluge. Of course, these speakers are likely better than the ones using typical off the shelf components, with a greater than 20 to 1 price vs cost ratio. I think I'm finally cured of my high end affliction.
