I wouldn't buy them, but I'd certainly look if it was less than a 30 min drive.

If I was wrong and they were something else, I'd run to the cash machine.

I'm starting to get picky. It has to be a really good deal or something I really want or need.

Nice boxes if the grillwork is intact. All I could find is -perhaps- they were mfg'd
~'73-76+ and a rough description:

"the woofers are about 14-15" ... The tweeters are 3" paper"

I got over to the seller's, and checked them out. Great condition, bi-flex woofers in pristine condition, no sound source to test them with. Someone called while I was there looking for them...so much for trying to drive the price down...First tested them out at home...wasn't impressed with the sound, especially the high end. Brought them to the local AK fest in NC, and got to hear them in a large basement powered by a 60 WPC tube amp.

I have no problem admitting I was wrong! Beautiful warm rich sound!!! Still rolling off at the high end, but I was hooked. We tried a couple of Altec Horns
(816?) but couldn't seem to get the active crossover right. So...by the end of the night after a bunch of beers, we took out the old anemic tweeter, and replaced it with an almost identically sized Cerwin Vega tweeter. Instant magic! :blink: However, having picked up the tweeters out of an Ultralinear 450 set, I'm contemplating more surgery. At least both of these tweeters fit in the same hole without any obvious modifications without removing the tweeter from the cabinet...

Looks like a very nice speaker purchase, nice cabs. Glad to see the upgrade on the tweet. I tend to wonder if the engineer back in the Altec day's was tone def, since you noticed a loss right from the get go. But also it's a cone tweeter, they have their sound quality limits anyway. Never was a big cone tweeter fan.

Depending on where that woofer rolls of at here are two good choices
