Right there on Staten Island, there's a nice looking pair of L250s. There's even a reference to Lansing Heritage.

Those cabinets have a ton of potential...

More vintage stuff in the east!

It looks like the cabinets might have been varnished or lacquered.

A veritable PLAGUE of ignorance is upon us.

How hard is it to see how the original was on there?

"You can buy new surrounds for $5."

It's obvious how they go on.... :barf:

It's like the day of bad surround jobs.

Do we have more missing protective screens, too? I don't see any for the 044-1 tweeters.

Yes we do. I guess it's the whole bug screen mentality. If it's between you and the driver it's a bad thing. People take the screens out of compression drivers as well.

Two more things I noticed about these L250's, is that the tweeters are gold/burnt, unless it's the picture but they all look the same to me. Second no peg holes for the grills?

"this ones are the original most desirable version, not the later 250Ti."

Damn it Giskard and Timbers lied to me, forced me to buy these crappy TI versions ;)

Sent the following question(s)

Hi,
are those the original tweeters? I have never seen gold domes.
The woofers were not refoamed correctly by putting the foam outside the metal basket, will that be taken in account with the price?
Do you have the wire mesh for the tweeters?
Were the mid woofers redone? the coloring looks "unusual", especially the dust caps
Thanks
Mark

The discoloration on the dust caps and the 108h surrounds are they have been bleached out by the sun. The tweeters are supposed to be 044 golds and that is exactly how they are supposed to look.

How did the L250's have the grilles attached as the promo photo also shows no grille peg holes (did they have griles at all)?

Also, I have just had a real good look at that promo photo and really wonder what the photographer was thinking when he "staged" that shot...

Yep, the original tweeters on these would be the 044-1 variation, meaning gold-colored domes. The JBL badges would have a gold color to them as well.

As for the grilles, they are attached by thin VelcroŽ strips that sit on top of the frame edge of the LE5-11 midrange and the LE14H-1 woofer. There are corresponding VelcroŽ strips on the grille frames.

(my communication with Stan)

Hello Stan,
As Mark stated in the previous question they are not re-foamed correct. There is no plastic cover to cover the extra foam showing from the factory. There is a plastic ring that goes between the cast frame and the foam. As stock, the cast frame of the woofer (LE14H-1) shows 100% with nothing covering it. The reason why they were done like that I would guess is the re-foamer destroyed the plastic ring upon removal while doing the re-foam.

I had a pair of these 15 years back. I bought from the original owner.

They never did have holes drilled for the Grilles, like the TI series counterpart, but they did have 2 small pieces of velcro like tape mounted on the outer topmost surface of the 5 inch midrange and the woffer baskets. The grilles would attach in that manner.

This piar does not appear to have the classic JBL dimple pattern on the Titanium tweeter, so that might need to be confirmed with the seller. The protective metal screen over the tweeters are also missing.

As for the woffers, this is a shame.

Edwards,
Hello, L250's did not use the Titanium Tweeters with the dimples, I believe they were Aluminum, and smooth. (044?) I also believe someone stated in an earlier thread the tweets were gold on the first editions. JBL offered a TI upgrade kit which consisted of 044TI tweeters, 104H mids, and upgraded N250 X-over network. This kit was developed for people who had L250's and wanted to make them better sounding/upgrade.

So lets noodle this out...Tweeters are the 1st original but not really top notch if compred to what is now available need new ones

Le5-?? looks dried out or sun damaged , needs recone

108 funny dust cap and surrounds.... questionable

14-1, could they be fixed by surrounds or must they be reconed at this point?

Xovers...original, upgrade needed after replacing bad drivers w/ti series componets

Conclusion...He should sell to me for 700 or less and I will take care of the rest! :applaud: :applaud: :applaud:

Random thoughts after dissapointng performance review rather than working hard :)

Mark,
He is easy to talk to, and receptive. Do a contact seller see what happens. I've talked to him twice. Nice guy.
