View Full Version : Altec 8256 cab w/3156 15"s

Took some pics of my Altec 8256 cabinet while I was rearranging things in my studio. This was originally one of five of the low-frequency cabinets in a bi-amp 5.1 system for a Coast Guard training theater. Can't remember what the high-frequency drivers or horns were, sorry, they were sold years ago. I'm willing to bet these were originally A6A/MRII594A configurations, though:

I've been using this cab for bass guitar in my home studio. The OEM internal wiring looks to be 20 gauge at best and low quality, I'll replace that soon. It's got two Altec 3156 15" drivers, cab and driver specs listed here:

Mine also has the N1285-8B crossover installed, which gives the option to cross over at 500, 800 or 1200. For a while I ran one of the 15s full range and one only from 800 down, now I've got them both full range, bypassing the crossover. It's shown on page 36 above and also here:
