This is my Turntable. I am finally parting with it after 23 years. It has not spun a record in anger in ten years.
Some history --- This is one of several manufacturers that sprung up in Scotland in the 70's 80's. Linn is probably the most notable but you will know Ariston Systemdek etc.
This is a Source Oddyssey in its final production format. In actual fact this is the last one ever made , I should know because I made it just as the doors were closing.
Although the company was shaky there is nothing half baked about this deck.
Every component is SOLID -- plinth solid oak inner platter solid alloy billet platter rim solid brass etc etc. The motor is Pabst dc hall effect same as used in Oracle Transcriptors and other top end tables . As a component we paid over £25 in '86 a Linn motor cost less than a third of that at that time.
Although it looks conventional it has one design feature that is unique -- a 5 point suspension. This was incorporated to eliminate the scourge of all the three point tables ie an inherent instability caused by the arm being outside the triangle described by the three supports. This problem is present in Linn Ariston Oracle Systemdek Thorens etc.
The 5 point suspension is slightly more tricky to set up but once it is in place it will stay rock solid for years. The ideal is a uniform vertical motion vith no sideways resonance an no skewed motion. Check your Linn it will almost certainly have a wiggle on the movement of the suspension. A further plus from the 5 point system is that a great range of arm weight can be accommodated, try putting a Fidelity Research on a Linn.
This comes with a fitted Infinity Black Widow arm. Now this arm was at one time the No1 pick at The Absolute Sound and although it susequently went out of fashion it is still capable of fantastic results with the right cartridge.
Medium compliance MC carts are ideal especially if they have lowish body mass.
Denon MC's work great in this arm.
I have a full file of pics ( 22 Mb ) that i will e mail on request.
The reason for selling. Well I wouldn't if it was not for the fact that a series of moves floods and a separation has left me with a fraction of my record collection, hence no use in the last ten years. Believe me I hate CD but there is no option as yet. I cannot think of any digital activity that has not moved on by leaps and bounds in the last 5 years never mind the last 25. And it continues to get worse - MP3 :barf:
Finally this turntable has a subtantial outboard PSU but no lid. Good news is a Linn lid fits exactly.
The sound is as you would expect from a top TT stable solid assured and quiet in the background. Rock steady imaging with superb depth and integrity.
Due to the weight of this unit I would expect to ship within Europe but air is not out of the question if you are prepared to wait a few days ( consolidation sort of like standby but for airfreight way cheaper ) It will of course be packed righteously.
I'm firing it up on this forum partly because I've seen some horrid decks running giant amps and speakers and also because I've had a few good and honest deals with guys from here. It will not go to ebay.
Price make me an offer deck used to sell fo £675 Psu £ 275 Arm £189.
I need a couple of 2405's in good condition so I dont have to rob them out of my 4315,s. Anyone interested.? Mac

Mac,

That's a unique table with a history to match. Is that leather on the top, or a hammertone finish?

Although I am not interested in adopting another TT, it is refreshing to see something different. I'd love to see it in the flesh, take it apart, set it up, and hear what she can do.....but I must resist! :)

Good luck,
Nathan.
