I have listened to the DD55000 Everest, very impressive. I just ran across that today so I thought I would share and make people salivate in case they forgot about them.

Peter,
Sorry about the delay in posting a response. We went to a moving picture show yesterday afternoon.
Let me start off by saying it was probably my most memorable two channel listening experience ever. The speakers were placed about 12 to 14 feet apart and the listening distance guessing at about 18 feet or so. The power used to run them was MacIntosh 200 plus per channel. I don't remeber the specific model number.
Now this speaker system as was formulated after the Paragon if I'm not mistaken, and let me tell you, there was no comparison between the two. The Everest is a 10 time step above. The reason why I know Is I used to own a 1957 D44000 JBL Paragon. That has another story behind it and it's a long one.
The Everest DD55000 is incredible from top to bottom. The most memorable thing to me was the low end. This demo was in a home not a store mind you, so with no sub or sub's coupled to the system. The low end response was felt in the seat at a moderate volume, very smooth, and defined.
The top end was just as incredible, left to right separation was very detailed and precise. If you ever get a chance to listen to a pair, take up the offer. I would say If I could afford a set I would take them to the grave with me, that is how good they sound. This would be my most sought after speaker for my two channel room, and keeping them forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jeff,
thank you very much! You said clear words about the bass, often discussed here and many who have not heard the new Everest are wondering.
Can the listening distance be choosen closer than 12 - 14 feet? Although I have the place there is not this distance for the moment. (There is BTW another problem too ... ;) )
Hope I can hear them in Norway.

It's not entirely clear to me which Everest is being discussed DD55000 Everest (circa 1985)
http://www.lansingheritage.org/html/jbl/specs/home-speakers/1985-everest.htm
or DD66000 Everest 2, as shown in the pics in this thread.

Yes the ones I have listened to are the DD55000 from 1985. Not the new ones. I believe I mentioned this model number in my above thread.

I located this rear view into the new Everest and noticed something familiar. I also do Car Audio and Video installations besides Home Theater, and I noticed the basket used on the woofer in the new Everest speakers looks a lot like the GTI Series car audio woofers. Take a look.
