Hey. I was doing a search on some 616-8A's I picked up and ended up here.
So...What can anyone tell me?

Welcome to Lansing Heritage, threebanger.

The 616-8A was designed for high quality distributed sound systems, and were usually mounted in the ceiling. Yours are the first I've seen that look to have been originally mounted in a cabinet (yours are Altec 614 cabinets).

It doesn't show in the picture in the link below, but I think you will find they have round conical flare (funnel-like) high frequency horns with a plug in the center that was intended to disperse the high frequencies. Never had a chance to hear these, but I'll bet they sound good. When you've had a chance to listen to them, please let us know what you think.
