no affiliation, but some interesting things to do perhaps.

I know i stack gear, use the stock rubber feet, and have my speakers on carpet... its all pretty terrible in my room at the moment.

OK, who'll be the first?Quote:

NEVER use speaker cables shorter than 8'. Amazingly, 4' sounds much worse than 8'.

You could spend a lifetime refuting that kind of BS. You might as well stand on the corner preaching. Better to just let them have their nutty ideas, and remain separate, dedicated to the science instead of the religion of audio.

I get the Mapleshade catalogs and have bought a CD or two from them, but they do preach some very whacked out concepts.

Fortunately they sell fixes for each and every "problem" that they have discovered. :rotfl:

They have some unusual products, their cables are. . . different to say the least. The power cords with wires in clear cellophane (check it out!) just scare me! The wood platforms they have look nice but seem rather pricey to me, not worth the price to me. Many of their claims certainly go against the grain of audiophile dogma. Has anyone heard their CD's, are they done well?

OH—MY—GAWD! I just replaced the PS-200 in my 4412A system with a "new" PS-400 and noticed the speaker cables are less than six-feet long. Will this negative effect be exacerbated by using a more powerful amp, too??? Do I need to go longer for more watts? Is there a chart I can consult? Until I've resolved the problem I'm cranking the attenuator pots waaay back just to be safe!

Nearly everybody sits too high. The "tweeters at ear level"rule sounds logical but fails when tested. For a test, sit on one or two phone books: you'll hear an amazing new warmth and fullness in baritone voice, trombones, tenor sax, plucked bass—and a far more natural treble balance.

I wouldn't worry ;), you neither :applaud:.
... Hal Cox (who knew Jim Lansing in the late 1940s) told me that Jim Lansing gave him advice on adjusting speaker damping. Jim told him to carry a few one and two ohm resistors in his pocket and add them in series with the speaker until the bass response sounded best.

Not esoteric but very practical. :D
