D130 , D130F serial numbers

From my understanding the D130 was in production in 1948 or so and the D130F was introduced in 1963.

I have seen reference on these forums to a serial number in the 25xxx range being from 1957 on a D130. I now have two D130F's with serial numbers in the 18xx and 52xx range. The 18xx is from from a 1965 Fender amp where everything, trannys and tube sheet, dates it to 1965.

So the question is, was there in fact a seperate serial number system for the "F" series speaker originating at JBL or were they serialised at Fender and when did this happen ?

the JBL-Registry says:
No. 26536----> 1957
No. 40812----> 1960

highest No. in the Registry: 212167 -----> ??

The D130 was first built in 1948 and the last in 1977 (unconfirmed)
Glen maybe right with his assumption mid to late 60's

it's not that easy....the number 212167 from my posting above is not the highest (or newest) number. Refering to Glen, it's the old date code that means 1952 (for the first digit=2) and December (for the next two digits = 12).
Later systems, starting in 1956 had a 4 digit numbering system.

The registered D130F show us numbers from 1218 to 7032x. It is confirmed that the number 458xx are from the year 1968.

Will be nice to get also your numbers for the registry to help others with their questions.....just a PM to me.

The problem there is that for my 1965 18xx to be in that range 9 years after a change in 1956 is inconsistent and unlikely to say the least.

Now if the 4 digit change were in 1965, or if F series had a different serial number sequence it would be consistent.

no....., from my side it looks like they used a separate numbering system for the D130F.
A 45xxx numbered D130 seems to be from 1959 and a 45xxx numbered D130F from 1968.
That's what the registry shows till now. We hope to be more precise when we got more entries in the registry list.
