Comp drivers : 2441 vs 2435HPL

My current PA system uses JBL 2441 comp drivers but I'd like to find something a bit less weighty as these puppies are 24lbs even before adding a horn and a box. I'm attracted to the neodymium/beryllium 2435HPL drivers but whilst I can find any amount of gushing descriptave stuff on jblpro.com about them, I can't find any actual hard specs. It is described as having a 75W AES power rating wheras the 2441 is shown as 70W@500Hz, 150W@1kHz program and half those values for pink noise. I cannot find an apples vs apples comparison. What I really need to know is in my system, crossed over at 1200Hz & 24dB/oct, will there be any downsides in terms of power capacity or sensitivity in upgrading to the neo/beryllium drivers ?.

BTW: I am aware of the exit diameter difference (2" vs 1.5") and shall either use diy adaptors, DDS horns or modified 1.4" Altec horns.

The first ( and major issue ) is the throat - the 2435 is a 1.5" exit driver and the 2441 is a 2" and they are NOT physically interchangeable without an adaptor. This will be a problem if cabinet depth is shallow and the adapters are not easy to find ( JBL doesn't actually make one! )

Once you get past that the issue of LF cutoff of the horn is involved.

If you are looking to save weight, and have interchangeability, a pair of 2450J's would be the best choice. They also have a 4" voice coil ( rated at 100+watts ) and the driver is a bolt-on replacement that weighs only 10.5 lbs.

I have a pair and might consider trades...PM if interested.

Sub raises some good points as far as a drop in replacement for your 2441's. So does Edge on the replacement diaphram cost. There is some additional driver info buried in these in case you missed them on the JBL site. There is no driver spec sheet for them. There is a 1 volt plane wavetube measurement in the AES article but without a similar measurement for a 2441 it's hard to compare them. There is some info in the Compression Driver Techsheet that may help you get something useful out of the PWT measurement.

They are a hoot size wise compared to a 2441 or a 2425 for that matter. You really don't appreciate just how small and light they really are until you hold one in your hand. Here is a picture of one next to an alnico 2405. The 2405 is heavier. I use them in a home set-up with PT waveguides.

Not to mention the replacement diaphragms for 2435 are $756.00 ea vs. $186.00 for 2450.
