I bought both my 4412s and 4410s "pre-owned".
Both sets had broken grill posts , still lodged in the grommets . Tried all kinds of glues , nothing held. Tried melting both halves togeather , no joy.

Finally came up with a proc that is much stronger than original.

Took the broken piece of post and drilled a 1/16 hole from the flat broken part thru the rounded end. Then placed it as it fits against the grill frame and drilled thru the just made hole down into the grill frame. (opposite direction of first drilling)

found a standard paper clip , straightened it out and layed both ends togeather , parallel. Two thickness just fit thru the 1/16 hole. Had to twist it to go thru broken part, and extended about 1/2 inch extra.

Got out the glue , inserted the extended clip into the grill hole , added glue into the break area and tightened the broken piece and grill togeather.

There is a loop of clip out the top of the broken peg , you just snip that off and WOW , that peg is strong now...never to break again...:bouncy:

takes 3-4 minutes.

That oughta learn those petulant pegs! :bash:

Nice job. I think mine are due for a similar treatment.

didn't take pics as was fixing. finished ones look like..........well ...new ones. do you know what they look like ?

guess I could go break some off and fix them and take pix THIS TIME, in case you can't visualize the short proc I described.

these kind of BS replys make you feel like "why bother posting to this forum any longer "

I think they (like myself) are trying to figure out if you drilled all the way through the front of the grille or otherwise how the paper-clip is anchored so that you can apply tension during the procedure. When you say "tightened the broken piece and grill together" it sounds like maybe the wire is supplying the tension. if not and the wire is just acting like re-bar in concrete, then I'll assume you clamped the peg somehow. I think that might have been the source of confusion that precipitated the "pics" reply. Of course I may just assume the best in human nature far too often. :coolness:

maybe I wasnt as clear as I wanted to be.

Yes, Phil, you are correct . The clip is acting like REBAR. The 2 thickeness of clip is a very snug fit in the 1/16 hole and really holds the broken peg in place without glue.

the grill frame sticks up quite a bit from the grill cloth, so 1/2 hole thru the frame does not affect cloth. The extra 1/2in of clip fills that hole perfectly.

did this clear up understanding or make worse ??

I have to say most times you seem like a happy go lucky guy, but I guess maybe all that crap on the tube last night got you a little cranky? :(

I was trying to understand how you did it and really was not sure.?
Maybe you could sketch it out and post it??? :bouncy:

On the other hand if you think it is a bull shit post do nothing at all.:bs:
