jbl century gold

There's a guy who is selling his jbl's century gold speakers. I am planning to buy them (i cant wait to go back to the jbl sound) but the guy tells me there are no batteries that power the filter. I tought that the century gold has a 9 volt battery in the back that should be replaced everey 2 years or so.
Am i wrong?
Is there another line of century's that comes without battery.
Im going to buy them tomorow so any fast answer could help.
For all i know its like a dummy or something.

The centurys will be my speaker for the time i will need to build my own JBL's but i heard it sounds fine

Well, hopefully he hasn't been running them with dead batteries for years, but who knows? Once fresh batteries are in place, they will sing as intended.

Bias the caps for the charge coupled (crossover) networks

Look up the 250ti speakers (among others) and read some of Giskard's comments on cc networks

i could explain what the b atteries do in dutch , but lets just say they sound better.

I think it wouldnt be hard to find the batteries. They should be right above the terminals.
The guy is going to check it out and will e mail me if he really cant find them.
So if he says there's nothing wil i get in my (german) car and drive 2 hours to see if there really is nothing.. i dint think so. But what if the guy just isnt smart and i pass on a pair of nice speakers because im to lazy to drive

If they truly are Century Gold's I would recommend getting them so you can experience them first hand.
You can always sell them if you don't like them.

they look the real deal, or someone put in enormous effort to make a clone. I always heard they sound really good so i think ill take my chance's and drive for a while. In holland 2 hours away is a lot for you guys its probably right next door.

the owner is not hearing them correctly with out changeing the battery he is probably giving them away at a very nice price

he called me again still telling me there is no space for a batterie.
Do you have to unscrew the terminal to find it?
i have never seen the back of this speaker only the "bling bling" front
ANYONE WITH PICTURES PLEASE.

by the way hes selling for 500 euro's that little over 500 dollar.

i have tried it but the drawing is al little to small a real picture might do the trick.
Ore some one who can tell me that its a little bit hidden and an untrained eye could mis it.

I just cant figure out why someone would own an expensive pair of speakers and not know there a battrey inside.

??It's hidden under a cover plate that you have to remove. You can see that in the manual. Even tells you the sequence on how to do it.

well,
bought them hooked them up and found myself listening tot cd after cd and couldnt stop.
There were moments i laughed out loud. Because everything sounds so great.

previous owner didnt care fot them at all. looked like he was too rich for caring anyway

its very nice. its from i believe 1990. replaced the (how do you call it)
foil?
and they sing again. sweet spot is very small.

Case was empty. when i got to the guys home he looke quite surprised to see that there was a case for a battery that he didnt know about for almost 9 years.

well i cant wait.
played some well recorded live music and heard things ive never heard before.
they sound very much alive and open. Bass is tight and present but not boomie. im gonna take a pile of my favourite albums and cd's pop open a beer and slide into happiness (until my wife comes home ofcourse haha)
at least they passsed te WAF so she aint that bad.

yep and for me the perfect gift is for her to leave the house and just let me be with my music. Dont open the curtains for two days unplug the tv rip out the phone and blast out strapping young lad :biting:

thanks that was very interesting.
I was able to expirience this effect at first hand. The moment the batteries were placed they sounded less tight then 3 days later. Everything seems more balanced now and i think they have reached there peak.
first day there was some moving around by the individual instruments now there's great pin pointing.
It seems the effect of the charged capacitators has more influence in the higher and mid range of the audible spectrum than in the lower regions.
