I have a real quick need to put a pair of speakers into our (new) music room that can be used for high level + flown from the ceiling.

Of course **before** xmas......:)

I have a pair of cabinets that are 1.45 ft3 and have a single 3" PVC port that's 3.25 inches deep.

Anybody care to pop this into a box tuning program and give a suggestion on retuning the port? The baffle CANNOT be changed ( except port length ) and the HF is using the same components as the 4425 JBL monitor.

Hey, sub...

I don't have BBPro here at work :banghead:, but did run a quickie on WinISD that looks like this, and suggests Fb of 39.17Hz, 3 in port and duct of 6.18 in.

Unless somebody else is not full of Eggnogg and beats me to it, I'll run a model in BBPro, tonight.

Um, I'd lower that port frequency a bit, especially if the box is going to be near the ceiling/wall junction (ie, a corner). Those box programs don't always pick the "optimum" frequency for a non-standard box size.

This box is a bit small for a 2214; therefore, I'd LOWER the tuning frequency from the recommendations. IIWM, I'd start out with maybe a 3" diameter, 10" long port (something like probably 35 Hz), and go from there. If the bass is weak, shorten it... I'd bet it'll probably still be a tiny bit on the "boomy" side if anything, even with the 10" long port. If it winds up boomy with the 10" long port, remember that you can make the port even longer, by using a PVC right-angle elbow and running the port off sideways or up into the box from the elbow. Worked in the L100s, L96s and such, it'll work for you.

Regards,
Gordon.

ooh ooh low is good.

Even though these are going to be flown ( rule#1 for PA = double the LF ) they will be in a pure corner location so the bass will be aug'ed a wee bit.

Unfortunately the majority of music that these willl have to suffer with is the current crop of blonde/pierced/vampish ( didn't Cher start that?? ) screechy thumpa thumpa crap masquerading as "pop"

sigh...

BUT it's pink floyd on 11 when the room is mine.....

All in all it's just another brick in the wall.

Hey, sub...

BBPro, letting it suggest Fb, comes closer to what Gordo is suggesting, but slightly shorter duct:.

Fb 34.45 Hz
Dv 3.0 in
Lv 8.085 in
