Wondering if T/S data is availabel for Altec 416? This is one of a hand full of drivers that performed very well in a Karlson K15 cabinet. Am also wondering what modern driver might come close to the 416 in sound quality? No insult intended here but used and rebuilt Altecs cost a bundle. I would like to believe that with the world of experience someone builds a driver that sounds like this one? Any suggestions/comments? Best regards Moray James.

You can purchase brand new 416 at GPA in either alnico or ferrite.Rated at 150 watts.
Best thing is to phone Bill and ask him.

The Thiele Small Parameters are on the following chart.

The next best speaker to a 416 8B is the Tad TL 1602. But be carefull on the frequency range limit on the Tad.If you want to match it with an Altec Lansing Horn. I believe the limit is not as high as the 416 8B.

If you Choose a Tad Woofer I recommend also a Tad HF driver and what ever they recomment as far as horn goes.

A lot of Augspurger Studio monitors had their JBL components replaced by Tad ones. Most of these monitors had JBL Bi Radial Horns. And some with Super Tweeter also.

Mismatching does not always work and should be avoided as much as possible. The Drivers were designed with a specific horn to match. And Woofer bass bin and driver.
