My name is Tom. I am new to the forum, but not JBL. I have 33 years of JBL experience. I was adding it up the other day, and it looks like I have had around 90 pairs of speakers in that time. I have been a mobile DJ:dj-party: , and Sound Engineer:band: . I've worked alot of County Fairs, and have even engineered for a few famous names. My true love is building speakers, using JBL's of course;) . I am 45, I no longer do professional sound, or DJ work. I have had 2 kidney transplants. They told me No More Stress, and as most of you folks know. Hi stress, and late nights are the norm for sound people. I'm damn sure not done fooling around with sound:applaud: . I've been hooked for decades, and it will stay that way. I will get around to doing my sig. pics, and specs on my current system. As well as doing some dealing. May even sell my L-300's will see. I am thrilled this forum exists, and there are people just like me here. I believe I've died, and gone to heaven;)

Many Thanks, Tom EDIT: Dear Moderator, Could you please move this post to the general section sorry. Thanks, Tom

Welcome aboard!

I hope your love for JBL will transcend into love to Altec. The two are one in the same.

I would not advise you to sell your L300s as most everyone will on this forum. While I do not own a pair, they are the cream of the crop for JBL Vintage enthusiasts.

This forum is a blessing. I have learned a ton and still continuing to learn.

Feel free to use the search and gander through the pages of threads that are there and get to know your fellow enthusiasts.

I am only 22, but I can feel the burning passion. I am even starting to think the DIY kind of way and will probably progress a little down the road from now.

:D

Thank You Storm. Yes Altec goes right along with the JBL theme. I have owned a pair of VOT A7's myself. :) Thanks, Tom

Find yourself either some Altec 846A's, 846B's, or 846U's and you will be set. Or, if you can find a pair of Model 19s, grab those as well. They will be the last speaker you will ever purchase, trust me.

;)

This is another little experiment... ;) Wish I had pics of my pro systems. I might can find some, but I haven't a scanner. Might have to take a pic of a pic... :)

:) Man! I forgot to mention. I owned a big Car Audio shop a few years ago. I designed several award winning systems. Here is one I built in an extend cab chevy truck. The guy I built it for, took it to Vegas, and won his class. He got 148 db. I didn't even know he had it entered. It wasn't even dialed in, he was running right off the head unit, no processing. We didn't even have the big alternator in it. Or the dual battery set up. I don't know what he was thinking. I'm betting we could have squeezed another 10 db out of it... Crazy...:D

I love the 4612OK's in your living room!

I hung 16 of those in a HUGE strip joint in '84. Met my future wife...
Who knew!

Welcome!Yep, here's one I put in my Corvette, I used to have. It turned out real good. I took a first place trophy for "Best Sound System". There were 38 systems I was up against, including a Lanzar van, and a western states SPL record truck. That Vette was some of the most tedious work I have done. I built my own amp temp gauge, and an RPM gauge for the 8 variable speed (etched the board, and built the circuit myself) push-pull fans. What a project, Kinda proud of this one...:)
