Hi,

I own an original pair of Altec Lansing "Big Red" with Mastering Labs crossovers. I was thinking of selling them in order to fund some special custom designed crossovers.
I've replaced the capacitors with Hovland musicaps and the internal wires with VanDenHul SCS-16, silver wire, at a total cost of more than $500.

I was wandering if anyone have got a clue, how much they are worth?

Thanks,
Guy

Can't really help you on your question, but I'm wondering if the back-engineered schematic of this crossover that has appeared on line is accurate. Which exact model of the 604 is used in the Big Red? and are there any other variations from stock. More to the point--could the Doug Sax Mastering Labs crossover be used directly with the 604-8G or would other changes have to be made?

Hi David,

AFAIK, the only difference between the original crossover and the one appeared on the web is that the value of the 5.5mf cap is 5.0 mf. I can not measure the inductors. The Big Red have the 604E2 driver. It is a higher power version of the 604E and it looks very simillar to the 604G. I am not sure if the 604-8G can be used with it. My drivers measure nearly 12 ohms. I think that the 8G is 8 ohms, so in that case the parameters will have to be changed.
