non original diaphragms

hello folks,

is anybody round the table with experiances in non original diaphragms for JBLs 2441, 2405 or 2402 sold as aftermarket diaphragms from down under? I wonder that the very different drivers like 2440/2441 may have the same type.

The 2440, 2441 and 2445 can all use the same diaphragm. I am not saying you should consider them equivalent as they are not, but they are all physically interchangeable.

I believe the generic diaphragm from Australia is their version of the 2445 diaphragm. I have no idea about the quality. I personally would stick with JBL replacement parts only.

As it happens, I will be going to Cannon sound some time today to pick up some bits & pieces (I live in Sydney), if you have any questions you'd like me to put to them , let me know. Cannon are, of course, the regular aussie ebay sellers of the non-original dia's.

For what it's worth, I was told that the repros are made by P-Audio.

thanks for your reply....the fact that I put my question to the forum was...that I know some diffs of the 2440, the 2441 and the following drivers like 2445 and I am very astonished that they use the same type of dias. As you know (I hope) that there are diamond pattern dias and other types. I think they must sound different.
Please let me know what you found out.
If you ever heard the diff between the 2440 and the 2441 (there are about 5kHz more in the upper freq with the 2441) you know what I mean.

At the Moment I compare some P-Audio Drivers with their nice 2342 / 2344 copys in my 4425.
I'm afraid to tell you that they sound excellent:eek:

They're cheeky devils! Just in case you can't tell where they got their "inspiration" from, they helpfully put a JBL model designation alongside their own!

Yeah Phil, they definetly are :moon: devils!

But their 2344 copy is excellent and 1/4 price. Thats the fact:cool:

I asked this same question to someone with 20 years experience dealing with JBL and their reply was not to bother with those compression driver diaphragms.
However I did just recone some 2225's with Cannon after market diaphragms, as the reply to this question was they may be better.

I must go and build cabinets for them they are to go with 2426"s on DDS flares.
DDS flares defiantly sound better than anything JBL have on offer.

I currently have a pair of Altec Lansing 288K’s on DDS wave guides in my lounge with JBL slots on top and they sound simply stunning.
