Can anyone please tell me about the JBL Control 8 SR, which I came across on the Google image the other day. I was totally unaware of this models existence and I have looked for further details on this type of JBL Control.

So does anyone know any more about it, diagrams more pictures specifications etc.

Learn to navigate JBL Pro:

1) Go to the JBL Pro website: www.jblpro.com (http://www.jblpro.com)

2) Click on "Product Guide" (top left)

3) Click "Vintage Products"

4) Scroll down and find Control 8SR under "Control Series."

I’ve done a simple search of the forums, you know it’s looking for keywords, most of the JBL control series models are under either Control 1 5 10 or 12 SR. Nothing on JBL Control 8 SR.

Do what Zilch said, go to JBL Pro, not the forum.

The Control 5 that have been running now for 17 years sound great there compact and fit into small rooms with easy. Hail to the JBL Control series. Now having seen the specifications on the JBL Control 8 SR wow, not bad going, but I can’t say have ever seen one, I have only seen the JBL Control 10 and 12 SR and of course I own the JBL Control 5 and 1 models.

I guess Ebay may have something, but I’m not too confident about buying anything of the Ebay as of yet!

Anyway thanks mate, for sharing your views on the JBL Control series.:applaud:

A key feature of S8R is weather (moisture) resistance.

Something to consider when buying speakers for a bathroom or spa, for example, where condensation might occur....

Doesn't Zilch have some Control 10s? I think he's at least fond of those.

I missed the opportunity to get some Control 10 sound reinforcement speakers a while back. Ended up with EONs instead.

Yup, Control 10s (ceiling mount) in the loft, Control 8SR (wall mount) in the spa, which is actually an office right now.

Both have powered subs running with them.

Been wanting to figure out how that dual back-to-back HTPS300 sub works for a while now....

SO, what is the general consensus on the sound quality of the Control Series? Compared to other Control/Studio monitors in the JBL lineup...like the 4312?

Zilch
11-08-2006, 01:45 PM
I don't know about general consensus, but in my experience, they are a step down from the Studio Monitors like 4400 series. Now way would I hang 4408s in a bathroom or 4412s in a spa, however.

Originally purchased for a commercial install, there's three pair of various models running at home and office here, Control 8SR, 10, and 28. I rather like the mirror-imaged Control 5+, too, but don't have any of those presently.

Originally, I A/B'd them with some then-current consumer models, and Control Series had clearly superior high frequency response. All are supplemented with subs here, tho.

It's not that the bass is bad; it's just, well, "commercial". Look at the response curves to verify....

Zilch-

Thanks.

What subs are you using with them? Any experience with current subs other than JBL that would mate well with the Control series? For example, like the HSU offerings? Do you have any recommendation for sub(s) to use with them?

Zilch

ARCsub8, Control Sub10, HTPS300.

Subs? It doesn't matter.

Thanks, Zilch.

I hear you. I wouldn't think mating something like a SUB1500 to a pair of the Controls would be a sane thing to do, but doing the sane thing is not exactly the norm for JBL lovers, is it? It would be interesting though to see (hear) how a SUB1500/Control combo would perform, though. :D

Hopefully it's not a taboo to bump old topics.

JBL 4645,

You might be interested in the following pictures. These were taken by me in Seaworld San Diego.

I've been trying to identify these speakers for the past few days. At first, I thought they were using a weather resistant variant of the Control 5 since their appearance is so similar. At a closer glance, you can spot the differences in the grille design.

Hopefully this shines some light on the subject.

I believe the port is placed on the opposite side as too the control 5. Still these are very rare to find these days. Maybe if you offer Seaworld a few bucks for the control 8 who knows?

Are the parts still readily available for JBL control 8 without any ordering fuss over the phone? It’s not like the common JBL control 5 that you can still pick up these days. I the JBL control 10 and 12 SR are very rare in the control series family.

JBL Control 5 takes control in the jungle! :D

One think slightly on my mind was the finished coating on the JBL control 5 series 5 plus and 8 even the 10 and 12 SR. What type of paint is used because mine have become some what jaded over the years and I’m curious as to what JBL uses in the factory or the near equivalent to what they use??

09-06-2008, 08:39 PM
Maybe if you offer Seaworld a few bucks for the control 8 who knows? To be honest, they sounded too flat. Almost like elevator music. It's probably because of a combination of poor placement and setup, because I've seen theme parks do better with JBL.

There is one other possibility? Maybe they have bass and treble on the amplifier or an EQ that has been adjusted to give that tonal sound that you heard at the theme park?

That's a great deal. Anyone thinking of taking that offer?

Edit: Too bad it has a built in transformer. I would of purchased it.

Wow - it really shouldn't take much work to bypass the transformer if you REALLY want one at a good price ... jump from the terminals directly to the crossover network/drivers and don't use them with a 70v distribution system (like Seaworld or wherever)

After some digging around, it looks like the Control 18ST contains the transformer. Have a look at this PDF document.

Hopefully they're selling the correct model. I just might bite the bullet.

I noticed I was browsing though JBL professional yesterday afternoon and noticed a few models had voltage transformer attached, like Heather said should be problem to get around that. I liked the JBL control 28, oh bugger he’s the link droll over it if you want, the prices are a few hundred pounds UK for a pair so, and I’ll wait and see what develops in the pricing.

Just doesn't make the same sense and may even say the OPPOSITE when you leave a word out.

Think I said it should be NO problem to bypass the transformer

like Heather said should be problem to get around that.

Just seen a link on site refurbished JBL control 8 SR £50.00
http://www.sseaudiogroup.com/product.asp?id=6100&ctg=5&section=6&sys=0&cat=1&subcat=0&fnd=2&srch=

I guess the Control 5 plus with the 8” bass mid and the same tweeter was it not and then JBL introduced the JBL control 8SR like the Control 12SR.

Both are now vintage no longer in production guess that makes spare parts hard to find as well. Sigh
