But they aren't worth the opening bid to me!:(

What the hell tweeter is in there? I don't know this model well, but looks like some other tweeter taped/glued in?????

PS: The nicer stuff usually is from California!:banghead:

That's a classic ad....classic:barf: :bs:

The cabinet is a 4410...the woofers are totally f'd up 127H-1's...one mid looks like a thrashed 104h-2, the other is junk...and the tweeters....nevermind:biting: .

Obviously a cobbled together assortment of "repair" parts.

Sad thing is....somebody will buy and love them, because they "sound great". I wonder what kind of "great sounds" they make.

 if you look closely , the tweeters appear to be scotch taped in....

They do look lived-on all right.

Reminds me many years ago I picked up a pair of AR11's at a yard sale. One of the tweeter bodies' was stuck together with a strange pink substance my wife later informed me was nail polish.

Okay, I'll admit it.. I bought them for a total of $65 plus a 150 mile round trip to Columbus. Once I get 'em home I'll do a post-mortem and see what's salvagable. If all that's left is one good midrange and two mismatched crossovers I can recoup the investment selling them. I have one 035ti already as a spare for my 4406's so maybe this will work out.

BTW.. I promise I'll hide them behind some sort of black grillcloth and wire frame 1/4-circle screen I'm trying to create to minimize some of the electronic altar look of the home theatre's front speaker/sub stacks. Any ideas for creating something nice-looking and acoustically transparent about five feet high that won't fall over when the cats try to climb it?

I think I hit the trash collector's jackpot. Both 127H-1's are recent recones and in good shape. One 104H is a recone and the other one is okay except for the dustcap. I got a 4412 crossover in one and a 4410 in the other. Anybody want the 4412 unit?
The black spraypaint finish is the show-stealer. I'll just call it piano black, keep the lights down, and stay a few feet away.
If I fab two new crossovers using decent caps and air-core inductors and chase down another 035 I'll have maybe $175 into them and be a happy cheapskate.

I could see that the woofers were intact, needed dustcovers, the crossovers I beleive are close in the 4410 and 4412s, close enough that you could download the schematic and change some values and have it (don't shoot me, Giskard, I am just guessing, here:dont-know). Stripping the paint would be possible , too.....the shipping cost (and lack of project time) is what kept me away. A few years ago, I would have gone for it. Sounds like you did ok...for $65, two working woofers, and two 035ti, why not?

Maybe he lost the woofs and and one crossover to an angry woman or a DEA raid.

The crossovers are totally different in size and appearance but identical in design. At first glance I thought the 4412 unit was a simpler design because the board and components are a lot more compact. Now I don't know what I'm sure of.

I would not attempt to remove spray paint from veneer. At least they weren't painted white or something worse.
