I think I may have one of those first Phillips units (pop-top loading), I'll have to check to see if I can figure out where I stashed it. Likely to still be in its original box, too. If I can find it I'll post a photo. Don't think you'd want it since it probably got put away for performance issues. I also have a Sony CDP-101 which I think was their first one. Tray loading with remote for the Sony. Some unsupported type of digital output jack, too, if I remember correctly. I'm intrigued by your project but doubt an early CD player will be anything but the weak link in your system.

(I've got an original Nak Dragon I've owned since new, still in use, too, though I have little reason to play or record cassettes anymore. Still a nice piece.)

This was the other CD player that came out when Sony introduced their
cdp101. It is a front loader and a beautiful deck. This was my first CD player when only 10 or 15 dics where available. American TV of Madison
Wisconsin had the 2 on display taking orders. I new the manager for that
dept. and he told me I could buy either one. I bought the Hitachi and
Steve the manager put the cardboard cut on the shelf for people to see for ordering. It was good sounging for the time

Man, it's still hard for me to put CD player and vintage in the same sentence. I remember back in about 1981, I wanted to buy my first CD player, a Sony I think. My ex-wife's take on it, "so now I suppose you'll want to buy CD's also!" Got to love her, she's quick! Remember the first VCR's? Top loading, weighed about 50 pounds. If you were real cool, you had Beta-max!

Good luck in your search. Sounds like you got a great system there!:applaud:

Hi there everyone...... im back:)

Bussines trip this week and limited time for my passion :D

You guys realy make me thinking if i realy need a CD player!!!

One option is to "clone" a chassi from my marantz 1070 and build a modern high end Cd player inside this chassie and flip down the black part of the front to axess the cd controls!!!!

hummm lets sleep on this and make somedrawings next week....

Sugestions on a smal good sounding CD player is welcome ??

And if you're really, really cool, you still have Beta. Mine's stacked with an LD player and a DVD recorder... Big stack of beta tapes that have colorbars and music on 'em next to it.
