A pair of these fell in my lap today. I'm curious if someone can tell me the difference between the A and B models?

I wandered around on the lansing site for 1/2 an hour but couldn't find any info on the malibu. Even did a search and got nothing!

Can you direct me to a website with info on the 843a?

thanks!

I have a brochure from 1968 that mentions the 843B Malibu.

"A beautiful, carved grillework-decorated speaker which projects an enormous volume of clean, solid sound and reproduces a wide dynamic range even with medium power amplifiers. Exceptionally fine highs areproduced by the 806A driver mounted on a 811B sectoral horn. A pair of 12" 414A low frequency speakers provides room shaking bass to complete a perfect balance of sound"

Frequency response: 30-22,000 hz
Power rating: 30 watts
Impedance: 8/16 ohms
Crossover frequency: 800 hz
Dimensions: 40" H x 25" W x 18" D
Speaker components: 2-414A, 806A, 811B, N-800G

The price list showed 417.00 (in walnut), effective march 16, 1968.

Sorry, I don't know the difference between the 843 A and B models.

Thanks Don, Great info!

I think mine must be from a different era. Later possibly ...because of the cane cloth grills and the different drivers. Mine have 414z woofers and 806a drivers.

Hey, we all are. If we all liked the same thing there would only be one speaker system.

Well maybe three or four at different price points.

According to me they sound great! High frequencies are very loud. I drive them with a Mark Levinson M27 power amp.

The 843 was the acoustic twin of the 9844 Monitor. I actually preferred it to the 9845, the 9844 had better bass. But then I'm just a poor dumb trombone player.

Info can be found in the Altec section of the library.

Also same as the Carmel, which had the same components but in a horizontal orientation. I always preferred the look of the Malibu.
