Is this no longer possible with authentic parts. Is there another solution. Thanks everyone.

They are easily repaired though you should take them to a JBL authorized service center. The replacement diaphragm is the D16R2405.

Nice looking speakers in your avatar... did you make them?

Thanks girls. Here are pics of the problem. I've never seen this before although I know the probable cause - I had had x/o fault and I think they were getting signal way outside their passband. Anyway I doubt if this is doing the sound any good and in any case spoils the nice look. LE 5-9 was mentioned ' is this Kosher. Do they have the inverted dust cap. No prob with the reconing process I used to be the JBL guy in Glasgow although most of the patients were L 19 40 50 etc woofers and 033 tweets. Thanks for your help.

If it were mine and I wanted to bypass reconing, I'd look for the LE5-2 on eBay, the only alnico alternative that has inverted paper domes also.

Unfortunately they are the LE5 variant that fetch the highest prices.. but they show up regularly.

Edit: Didn't find a tech sheet for the 4315. Usually there are given official replacement recommendations for all drivers.

It seems to be a dead end then , bear in mind these drivers are still working with no scraping or anything like that. My concern is that the integrity of the conical structure is compromised, in other words these cones have already broken up in the sense normally applied to an over driven driver. Horror of horrors I tried a wee trick. In picture framing a paper image like a water colour needs to be stretched before mounting. this is in order to make it flat. This is achieved by carefully wetting the paper and then taping it to a flat surface to let it dry. So i tried this in on the cone and force dried it with a hair drier. Result - a slight improvement although I'm not sure how far i can push it. I'll wager that this might work on dust caps.
Anyway thanks for your help everyone. I'm sure somewhere there are a couple of recone kits. I'll try JBL uk you never know what they might have lurking at the back of a shelf.
