Back in the early '70s, Roger Russell, the designer of many of McIntosh's finest products had a neat trick;

"A favorite demonstration of mine was to plug the ML-4 woofer section into the 120-volt wall outlet. This really captured the attention of visitors who questioned the power handling of the system, and it was also very loud...."

Having blasted my ML-1Cs (the single-woofer version of the above-mentioned ML-4s) with insane LF levels for over 20 years, I have no doubt that he really did it. Wonder what he could have done with today's materials and adhesives......
