Hi , I am new to the site but am a JBL owner since 1973. I have a pair of L26's and recently bought a pair of century L100 's .
The 26's still sound great and are in great condition. I am having the L100's resurfaced and grills redone, they sound just the way i remember true sound. So thanks for reading. ;)

Have you had any work done on those L26's? If not, the surrounds on them woofers are certainly due.

And what does

The "resurfaced" bit has me baffled, so to speak, while the "grills redone" bit might find quite a few interested L100 owners, here, wanting same. So, whaddya mean?

Hi, boputnam
The L26's have had to have new woofers. the salt air here eats the foam up.
The L100's cabinets are orginal and scuffed up pretty bad so I am having a professonal wood maker just lamenate them he is also redoing the edge's of the grill as they are falling apart, but the original surface is still there, also puting on new screen.
Thanks for asking. :)

Were you able to find the proper replacement woofer? If not before finding the Forum, you might have luck, now!

Long live the L100:rockon1:

Seriously, I have (3) pair living with me and the only reason I keep them around is because the looked great in orange and blue... "it's eye candy" but if they pull another stunt like this... they are history...

No reason to be sensitive... just remember to keep them turned up!!! :rotfl:

Huh... huh huh... FIRE! FIRE!! :flamer:

Seriously, WTF happened to that one? Amp failure?? I've seen PA woofers scorched that bad, but RARELY do I see a home woofer set on fire...

BTW: If they got that hot, chances are the alnico magnet needs to be re-gaussed. I'd bet money that it's down on flux now...

Regards,
Gordon.

BTW: If you're adventurous, we inadventantly found a MONSTER of a woofer recone option for the L100 woofer:

It's a bastardization, admittedly, but MAN does it have PUNCH.

Use an aftermarket 122A cone (from Image or MWA or wherever). DON'T use the foam surround, tho... replace that with a Flex-aire surround (backglued onto the 122A cone), dimensionally the same as the 123A cone. Use an original style 123A voice coil and the softer of the aftermarket spiders available.

No, it won't look stock... but boy, does it EVER do MIDBASS TRANSIENTS. It's just plain SCARY. And it seems to be less boomy than stock, too...

Regards,
Gordon.

Gordon:

How do I get in touch with Image or MWA?, I have also seen the name "Walden" for cone kits, I tried google but You can imagine.

Thanks, Alex.

Try "Waldom" with cone or recone.
