Jbl Le1400h ???

Do you have eny experience of this 14" basdriver? I think it also goes under the name 1400pro. Can I build a nice subwoofer with two of these drivers?

(1) The 1400pro has the lightweight neodymium magnet structure . It's more of a midbass speaker ( IMO ) - having an Fs set at @ 52 hz. In contrast the ferrite le14h has an Fs of @ 26hz ( or 1 whole octave lower ) .

(2) I don't know exactly what woofer you might be referring to. Maybe you've seen a 2217h - from out of the "Array" series . If has a ferrite magnet structure ( about the same size as the 2226 magnet ) married onto an evolution of le14h frame with additional supporting ribs. This 14" variant is used in the 4893 twin 14" speaker enclosure.

- Do you already own these woofers ? Does it look like the drawing in the jpg ? That's a 2217hpl along with its Ts parameters. Even an Fs of 45 hz is still an octave too high for any real bass ( IME ).

- Still, some guys are quite happy using 2226 woofers and the 2226h Fs is about 40 hz ( @ low E on a bass guitar ). So it becomes a matter of informed choice for your preferrence in bass .

- Do you have any speaker/enclosure tuning software ?

Really I think the easiest way to get good bass from a pair of 14" JBLs is to just buy 2 selfpowered subs from JBLs' Performance Series (http://www.jbl.com/home/products/product_detail.asp?ProdId=PS1400BLK&CheckProduct=Y) . This is really the speaker you want for subbass if you must use a 14" .

Over where you are ( Europe ) you might be able to buy the woofer alone - it might be worth checking into . Here's a pic from the Harmon Site of the very attractive PS1400BLK .

Better to look for JBL 2235H instead

Well, one problem with the 2235H would be that it requires at least 5.0 cubic feet of volume to do the same thing the LE14H-1 or LE14H-3 can do in 3.25 to 3.50 cubic feet. The LE14H-3 has that nice non-rotting surround too. If space is a real concern the LE14H-3 would probably be the better choice.

This is the speaker that I was saying has too high an Fs for any serious bass - subwoofing . The magnetic assembly might be able to be reconed into a 1400nd - if you could find a cone kit & a reconer to do it. But what would be the point ? - It would probably cost more than just buying the correct speaker in the first place - plus that 1400nd speaker is also a little more tilted to "fast" mid-bass" response vs being a true woofer. Just ask Niklas here - he still wants more bass & he has 4 , 1400nd in 2 different sized cabinets. If a pair of 1400pro woofs fell into my lap - I'd enjoy them the way they are and put some subBass below them .

- The posted prices from Giskard really tell the story here - have JBL Sweden, import (2) LE14H-3 and build some cabinets if that's your sort of thing. Two, 3.5 cu' enclosures are very easy to live with . The previously posted picture of the PS1400BLK should provide some inspiration ( at least I really like it ) .

I dont think the K2´s reproduce much low bas as it is right now.

You could measure the tuning frequency of the K2's and then pop some EQ on them centered at that tuning frequency.

They look like the picture of 2217H. But the name is LE1400H. There is also printed Pofessional Series on the back of the magnet. Compared with the LE14 wich is in JBL 250Ti the difference is huge! I have compared and replaced it in two 250Ti. It sounded great, good punch!!!

About the bass in your K2. I´m sure you are aware there is another model called M9500. It goes down to 25 hz. I think Neriks has listened to a pair in Germany. maybe yo should try a active crossover?

Offcourse I know the M9500. The M9500 has bigger volume
for both drivers also.

What type of surround ( edge ) does it have?
Is it a pleated/or double roll of linen or is it a half roll of foam ?

- Does this mean you presently own 2 of these woofers ?

- If so, measure the Fs ( free air resonance ) of the woofer ( a few feet off the floor , outside of the box ). You may also need to learn how to measure Ts parameters for yourself to see if it'll be a good subwoofing speaker.

- ( It sounds like this speaker may be a le14h-1 cone-kit working in the deeper gap of the 2217h motor . Or the motor may just look similar but could be based on the 2227h magnet structure vs the smaller magnet of the 2226h ).

- Can you provide measurements of the magnet & a picture of the back of the woofer ?

The JBL LE1400H is a woofer sold for car-audio, and not for home use.

I would not recommend replacing the woofers in 250TI with this unit.
