gathering parts for an Everest clone (of sorts)...
does a tech sheet exist (ala the recent burst of kindly provided zip files) for this model? I've found manuals (incl. Japanese) and brochures, but all of the photos tend to hide important construction details. Have 2226HPL, 2426 + asym horn, & 2405's. Expecting to build a main cab based on specs/info/photo-gleanings and a separate tuned bass cab ~224l eff., that could be permanently attached after tuning...factory units appear built that way. Any info (esp view from top or back) regarding assy of these beasts or x-overs available (other then reverse eng. of plots in manual)? Sorry for the msg length & thanks in advance.

I deleted the first image Matossan was kind enough to post these on a previous forum. Might be here in the archives. There are a couple more but these help the best for construction.

Hi.

The LF looks like an E145, doesn't it?

What do our Hon. friends think of the felt around the 2405?

Alex.

The E145 and 150-4H are the same driver, only the foilcals are different.

Thanks for the photos/schematics! Have most of the geometry nailed down but I was missing some of the details (e.g., 2405/adj panels are split and bolt-in). 2226H isn't exactly a E145-8
replacement (esp, top-end-wise), but it's what I have for now... entered parameters into WinISD Pro and was able to get a comparable tuning.
We'll see what happens after the sawdust settles.

L-3 in the crossover may cause a bit of trouble as well as your 2226.

thanks for the warning re "L3". forgot to mention the 2426's are J models (16ohm), and I have JBL 3.3mH versions of "L3" that I hope will be useful.
I'll report back when project momentum picks up.
I really appreciate the advice/feedback/info.

Grumpy,

Were did you find ass.horn for your Everest Project?

I thought it was unavalaible as a spare part !

Maybe you have made a copy of them based on original drawings.

Ass Horn:eek:

Too much Monty Python

You rarely see them on E-bay from time to time. The Pro loud speaker is up from time to time too 4660. Have seen a couple out of churches both didn't go for much so the buyer got good deals.

Rob

Ok i understand the joke

Buttocks or ass is effectively " derrière" in French. The real "vulgar"
french word is "cul".

I believe we can stop now this "off topic" thread:D

4660 or 4660A (in my case) was indeed the source. purchased as b-stock (factory refurbs) that had sat at a sound company for a long time but were in great condition/in orig boxes... at ~150lb each, shipping could get nasty if you had to go that route (parts were more like 50lbs/unit) after extraction)...shipped bigger parts, smaller stuff went into carry-on luggage... look on airline inspectors face when the 2426J's were detected was classic.

I took three Meyer Sound 1401As ( a little smaller than 2441s) that I picked up on vacation through the x-ray machine. The security guy asked what they were. I told him and he didn't even open the bag.

This was a year before 9/11 however.

after putting together info available and inferred
from various photos, I'm at the point where I
believe the 2346 horn that came with the 4660A
has an extended flange relative to the version
installed in the DD55000...or my inferred
measurements are substantially off. Best guess
on top-view layout (to scale) is attached. Any
info regarding the size of the 2405 "bump"
(~4"front x 7"along diag) or detail of the front
corner opposite the 2405 (esp top view) would
be most helpful. Currently looks like I'll have to
widen the design ~1". :banghead:

Thanks,

did some forum searching...appears that
2226H's I have might work in a pinch for
the E145-8's called for with the same
40 Hz tuning...albeit w/ about 3db less
output and a 5cu ft cab instead of 8.
just means 2426/2405's will get padded
down a bit more until I have the time to
scrounge for some nice E145's. Anyone
used sand in plastic milk jugs to "shrink"
a cabinet (temporarily)? ...just a thought.
I'd really like to stay as close to stock
cabinet dimensions as is practical.

Thanks,

-grumpy

(Happy enough w/ L150A's meanwhile)
:blah:

Sand bags will work fine, bricks whatever won't vibrate and you are comfortable putting in there. You could also use the braces as an edge/frame to mount a temporary partition to close of a section or sections if you wanted.

a closer look at DD55000 pictures that are generously available via this site vs. the horns I have available make it clear that the 2346 horn from the 4660A does indeed have a significantly wider mounting flange and different bolt pattern.
Going strictly stock is now moot...but I'm making
these purely for my listening enjoyment anyway
(ok, and they have a cool/distinctive look) :D

Anyone else ever tried to tackle this box design?

Jasper circle jig showed up and 2405H drivers
have been ordered from Harman (thanks Giskard & Bo for info), so my list of excuses is
getting shorter :p
